I have been always curious as to welting being on the two tabs on the side of the radiator. My '47 had remnants on the driver side. I have seen photos of "original" Jeeps and they appear to have it on both sides. You can clearly see the driver side one on this recent for sale listing of an "original" '47. The battery hold down is also visible.

Beautiful Jeep. Always great to see one brought back to original condition. Congratulations.

Thank you. underhood details are the toughest; very few early photos to work with.  That link above has expired,  unfortunately

Take a look at this one. You can see the welting on the outer panels. The Jeep looks very original.

Perfect, thanks for the link, we will fix that on #29289!   Please keep comments coming.
Obvious errors include the color of the wheels, lack of pinstriping, chrome headlight rings are wrong, should be body color.
Let me know what else you notice!

I'm certainly not the expert on this and hope to learn all the details myself so that I can restore mine to something close to what you have done. I don't know all the changes between yours and my '47.

Maybe posting a series of close up engine photos will get the experts to chime in on how things should be.

I see two other areas that I believe are not correct.
1. The headlight wire grommets don't look correct and the headlight wires should be in the asphalt/cloth sheathing.
2. The radiator side air damn (for lack of a better word) on your 2A is metal. I thought they were all horse hair or felt.
3. Should there be a body tag on the firewall?

This post may be a good reference for you. There are some good photos of 11803.

Thanks I will chase down those details.  29289 was owned by a highly skilled Bubba at some point in life and he may well have fabricated those radiator housing pieces.   Yes I'm sure the body tag should be on the firewall.  However mine was missing, and the reproductions are really not very good.  I have the one from the front bumper bracket but it's badly damaged by welding spatter.  I might clean it up best I can and use it anyway.

I have not used them myself but there are several on the list that have commented on them.

Again, beautiful job.

re: Dtaplates4u.com

I used him and they are the best I've seen! The price is reasonable and the fonts are correct! I have my frame tag and ordered the two firewall plates from him. Here is how they turned out!

Two questions: On the latch for windshield (for that matter, other places) should the fasteners be painted black or left plated?   Secondly, are these acorn nuts correct for the windshield?  I doubt it but what is proper instead?  also the same question on paint.

Details coming together slowly.  Got the headlight rings painted, and footman loop fasteners converted from phillips to slot head.

Sorry about the formatting.  I can't figure out editing photos on this forum despite ~10 years on it!
Anyhow 28289 is mostly done.  A few small items on checklist.  The hardtop came out great, but of course I removed it instantly since: summer.
the restored Harrison heater was recored and works great.  I have not yet used the Warn overdrive and need to get the stickers installed.
Lots of little details but pretty pleased with the outcome.  Check out the entire thread and you'll see I think I deserve 5 stars for patience!

I am regretting not using dataplates4u for the dash plates as well as the frame and firewall tags.  Does anyone know which of the styles they display are correct for '46 28,XXX run?  I assume the First one?

ersatz,
A little late, but I wanted to say VERY NICE.
I especially like your included photos of the Koenig hard top. Very nicely done there too.
It's nice to see the detail shots of the inside with the masonite door panels.

Did you install new door glass channels? And the masonite also?
It all looks new, so I'm just wondering.

I'm in the middle of restoring a Koenig half cab now also, but I need all new channels, glass, masonite. It's nice to see it can be done!

Enjoy your Jeep!
Dave
