Have a Dana 44 and 27 out of a 67 cj5, with 4.27 gears. Looking to trade for a set with 5.38s. Would add cash if they have a power lock or 2!
Edit for location; near Charlotte NC

I’ve got a 25 and 41 combo. Hoping to find a 19 spline 44 and either 27 or 30 front.

Hey NCtoy,
Thanks again for the hubs and the tour! I came home and checked out my jeep again, and sure enough, I have a 27 up front. Mine supposedly is from a 1964 f-head. I'm not sure what I am getting into, but I have my eye on a locker now! Adam

Glad you made it home ok! Enjoy the hubs. A power lock would fit right in that front end.

If you have a D25/D41 with 5.38 gears you can swap the axle shafts from the D27/D44 and basically end up in the same spot. Unless you're wanting to swap a Powerlok into the D25 but Herm has a kit for that. Also, use red lock tight or safety wire on the D41 ring bolts to eliminate the issue of those bolts backing out.

Do the side gears interchange between the 41 and 44?
Yeah, I have been considering the power lock for the front. I’m kind of talking myself into just putting a lock right in the 41 and run it if I can’t find a 44 to use. Just don’t want to blow it up. Also, I used locktite when I cleaned up the rear end to install.

Did you ever get to read Dr. Vern's little dissertation on the strength of a 41? He mentioned someone he knew who beat a 41 heavily without it dying. Perhaps they are tougher than we are led to believe...

Yes the side gears will swap between the two and the only strength difference between the two, other than 19spline vs 10spline shafts is the ring gear bolts on the 41. However, if you use locktight and aren’t running a v8 you’ll be fine.
