I had another good day.

I got the jerry can mount painted.
That thing reminds me of a Viking hammer/axe.

I made some progress on the annunciator panel. It makes me chuckle every time I see it.

I just finished tidying up and putting away the tools when my daughter came out with a package that arrived in the mail. My data plates arrived !! Woohoo! They demanded to be installed immediately.

I didn’t like the way the seatbelt sign was illuminated. It made one bar brighter than the other 2. So I modified the design giving each bar its own light. This should work much better. Just needs some paint and I’ll wire it in.

At this point I’m just messing around but I’m enjoying the fabricating.

Jon, gotta be careful...too much more tinkering and you'll be installing airbags and collision-avoidance radar.

Lucky day today!
I went rooting around my old parts pile looking for something and I came across an old grill with marker lights .... WITH LENSES!!

So I harvested them, cleaned them up (they were painted over ?!?) and installed them. One was broken but I glued it. These lights also have the proper rubber boot to hold them in place. I think they work really well with the amber LED bulbs.

It’s like that feeling when you find a $20 bill in your pocket.

I’m running out of things to do on the jeep so I began mounting my old school manual winch. More work to do but it’s a good start. The pictures don’t show it but the main crossbar is 1/8” thick 2.5” angle iron.

Still waiting for my wiper motor rebuild kit.

Santa brought me a bright red shiny new jerry can for Christmas. Unfortunately new jerry cans are a slightly different shape than older jerry cans. I can shove it into my rack but it’s not ideal. So I set out to make a new rack.

The strap needed a bit of modification too.

I took apart my winch.
I was told by the PO that it was ‘rebuilt’ which may be true, they just didn’t do a very good job of it.
It will be a fun side project.

My NOS wiper motor rebuild kit arrived all the way from Greece in a breakfast cereal box. The guy sent 2 kits out. I’m not sure if that’s a mistake but whatever. There is a bit of corrosion on the metal parts in the first box and one of the paper gaskets in the second box has a small tear. I also notice that the rubber in the paddles is quite dry. But I’ll be able to make it work. Not worried about it. I may replace the rubber in my existing paddle if the replacements are too dry or cracked.

I got the winch sandblasted today.
A bit of repair then paint and then I can reassemble.

I finished repairs to the winch today. Had to fabricate some new pins to keep the cogs locked in place.

Then I welded half of a 3/4” drive impact socket to the crank cog to allow the winch to accept a ratchet.

Everything is repaired, straightened, sandblasted and modified as required. I dry fit it all together. It’s now ready for paint and final assembly.
