More tinkering on the jeep yesterday. Andy Fortier came by with his pipe bender and we fabricated some supports for a soft top.

It breaks down in to 5 short manageable pieces. I’ll have to make some brackets to stow the pieces when the top is off.

I think it came out great.

The Harrison heater is ready to install.

Also my daughter has made a template for the soft top out of an old bed sheet.

Soft top progress.
Just need to get out for a test drive and see if it needs any tweaks.

Also I recently installed a dual USB charger and made a mount for my cell phone from a dollar store selfie stick, threaded rod and a magnetic tool base.

Welcome to the future!

The Rusty Coq got an upgrade this weekend. Recently I bought an overdrive. It’s from the 50’s. I believe it’s a Husky but it could be a Saturn or Warn. I’m told it was rebuilt a few years ago but never installed. Judging by the look of it, that appears to be true. I finally got it installed today. It’s like adding extra gears to the transmission. But the best part is the extra shift lever that goes with it. I decided to paint it red for fun, because with the overdrive engaged I can now reach freeway speeds. I had to make a new ring to hold the shifter boot down. I’m planning on using a leather glove to make the new boot.

Thanks to all the people on this sight who answered my questions about the overdrive installation over at the tech forum.

Appreciated.

I had Lola convert a leather glove in to a shifter boot. I like it. I could not find a black glove to start with so I may have to dye this one.

It never ends.
Time to rebuild a Ramsey winch and make some modifications to install it.

I'm making great progress on the Ramsey winch install. All that's left is to fit the fairlead and paint.

Next is to upgrade both axles. I have 1942 axles, Dana 23-2 in the front and Dana 25 in the rear. They have rzeppa joint which are weak and I can hear binding in turns. My friend Justin has donated a Dana 25 for the front that I will put spicer axles in and a Dana44 axle for the rear. I have got them broken down and ready for sandblasting. I need to order new bearings, seals and shims then once painted I can reassemble them. I'm looking for a locker to put up from but holy cow they are pretty expensive these days!

The Ramsey winch is in.
I love it. It has one tiny tiny leak where the electric
motor mated to the gearbox so I have another new seal ordered.
We will see if that helps.

I'm still working on the axles. Almost there.

Love the 'face' of your jeep, with the MB grill and super-clean winch/bumper setup. Well done.

Thanks,

I also have a Warn 8274 and a Belleview 6000 but they sit too high and block the grill.

I chose the Ramsey because it sits lower and does not hide the grill. It's too pretty to cover up.

I made and installed rock sliders this week.
They came out great. Super happy with them.
I'm Moab ready now.

Also the new brake master cylinder is installed and set up.
