I got sidetracked dismantling and cleaning hubs for rebuild.
I am missing a brass selector for one of them but I’ve put the word out and may have found one. Edited by 92889 - 08 Nov. 2017 at 2:03am |

Christmas came early in Tsawwassen.
A friend called me up and asked if I wanted and old steel jerry can for the Jeep. Ummmmm... yah! Not sure of the year but it’s steel and stamped US. I think it will be a nice addition. |

Jon: There could be possibly a date stamped on the bottom along with the manufacturers name. It looks to be in good shape, but make sure it is clean inside.

A lot of those old cans had a date stamp in the bottom. I'm not sure, I think I am up to 4 of them and several of the garbage plastic ones. None with the junk mandated safety nozzles.

A can with those rolled tabs on the lid will be dated on the bottom. It will say "5-20-year". This does not mean it was made on May 20th.

'76... not even close to period correct but I still like it.

On a geological time scale, it's period correct. Take the long view...

As a geologist, I can take a long view on things. We were up on a trail and a friend needed fuel so he was pounding on the lid of one of my gas cans with a hammer. I wandered over and told him to stop and got my long screwdriver out and showed him how to open them.

Coulda done that with the handle of the hammer. I guess to some people, a hammer is only for use as a hammer...

You seem to do some of the strange hours as I do. The old joke is that whatever you have in your hand becomes a hammer and you can break anything within range of it.

Sometimes if the hammer is just out of range, whatever IS in range becomes a hammer.

I finally found some time to prep and paint my T90 and the dismantled transfer case.
Just waiting for parts then I’ll get it assembled. |

I tried a new paint recommended by a friend.
DOM16. I sprayed it with my HVLP and it came out great. I kind of wish I knew about it while doing the frame and axles. I guess we’ll see which is better the DOM16 or the Endura. Edited by 92889 - 03 Dec. 2017 at 4:21am |

I got my new sliding gear after a bit of a mix up. Hopefully I’ll get the transfer case built this week.
Gear was manufactured in 1954 and never used. Came in the original box. So cool! I also got the master rebuild kit from Novak, so this case should be good as new soon. |
