CJ is #29289   I just bought this, haven't taken delivery yet.  But I'm curious about what I am looking at here.  This doesn't appear to be the very early parking light setup.  Can you help me place it?

I'll make two guesses. It is either for brake and turn signals while being towed, or is a auxiliary power outlet for some accessory.

I'd go with accessory socket, maybe for plow lights or plow lift.

Hi, 29289 would have had these early style of parking lights.

Old Boy's picture has the answer.

Yes I was wondering about the parking lot.   Old Boy that looks like a terrific restoration, I assume that is the correct period color etc?  that is exactly what I have in mind for this CJ.  I am accumulating information on what is 'correct.'   Your parking light assembly is what I assumed mine should be so I suspect rocnrol is correct that someone in the past did a quick-n-dirty 'upgrade' when a light broke or something.

Should 29289 also have driver's side tool indents?  I am getting this car because it appears to be a totally rust free original tub but if I conclude it is a re-tub I won't go through with it.  I already have a very nice CJ3A but it's a rebody; I want an original.

According to http://www.thecj2apage.com/history.html It would appear that 29,500 is right around the cut off... so, that's probably best left for the experts... but I'd think you should have them.

Excellent, makes me feel better.  I'm buying sight-unseen although with lots of photos.   Based on history it seems very unlikely this was re- bodied, seems like a working farm vehicle it's whole life.   the thread you reference suggests this was built very soon after the tool indents ceased.  It has column shift and as you see the top bar brackets.   I plan to do a total restoration but want to make sure I start with a correct car.

Looks like a nice survivor!

When you do take delivery, get all the "details" for our database.

Hi ersatzS2, the color was the closest match to Harvest Tan I could find at my local paint supplier. The Jeep was originally that color. Thank you for your kind words, it isn't finished yet but I'm getting ever closer. And no tool indents!
