I agree with Ol' Unreliable, be careful with that plastic once it has paint on it, it can lead to one hell of a mess. Before you recoat it make sure you check to see that the paint adheres to the plastic good, if it does you're all set. Some paint won't stick to some plastic.

ROFLMAO OK so after a fun filled 64 hours work week I get home a little early today the wifes taking a nap so I figure great time to get a couple coats of paint on the underside of the hood. So tomorrow morning I can flip the hood over and get 3 nice coats on it and the fenders and have at least this part of the paint job covered. So the the spray gun blows some sanding dust out from between the hat channel and the main part of the hood. The paint runs on both sides just about half way between the Willys and the front edge of the hood right in the middle of the curve and then I get half a dozen nice big drips on the right panel because the packing in the gun is worn out. guess I get to color sand the underside of the hood some too. I threw the gun away. I got another one (bought the second two gun kit before I ever started). I always figured they were disposable. And if need be I have the Two detail guns from the kits that will work with color just fine.

I'm painting the Hood exterior and the Front fenders tomorrow morning. I'll try to drag them out into the sun light tomorrow afternoon for a couple photos Mike.

OK Sunday morning again. as I am trying to now fix the major screw up from last Sunday morning. The only thing I have done is to be able to get a new top coat of Epoxy Sealer on the exterior of the hood. I got a bit of a run along the bottom edge on the right side but that will sand out ok (in 3 days) So now the plan is to let this set up a day or two flip the hood shoot a new top coat for the Blue on the inside of the hood. Allow that to set up at least a day. Then Wednesday Morning to go in an sand the Epoxy sealer on the exterior of the hood and Shoot Blue on the Hood and the Front Fenders (3) coats. Weekend after I'll shoot Epoxy sealer on the Windshield and Tailgate. I'm telling you 250 hours in 4 weeks has sure cut down on the time and energy I have for working on CHUG. good for the budget but man. I have whittled away at my shopping list and only a couple major things remain Windshield Glass Tires Exhaust Header pieces and main exhaust pipe (I'm making my own Tri Y designed header) the Vair Air compressor for the On Board Air system Battery Then I have all the Wire and cable to do the electrical system out of (I already have the Fuse and relay and switch stuff) Little things to buy fancy adjustable Wiper Arms to go with my fancy wiper system 12V Horn (looking at going with a Hi Lo GM horn system as well as a small Air Horn) Moon Cover for spare tire Steel to build swing away Tire, Fuel Can, and Pioneer Tool rack from Bedliner stuff to do the front floor. |

HOT DIGITY DAMN I knew waiting as long as I could might pay off. So here's the deal part of my engine performance upgrades include switching from points to a Petronix magnetic trigger. Trouble is I also want to use a Vacuum advance distributor and Petronix just didn't list my distributor. I contacted them and they wanted between 300 and 350 bucks to figure out what parts would fit. WELL THATS A BUNCH OF MONEY So I kept putting it off. I went to their support page just now and YAHOO they now list a kit of both the Ignitor and Ignitor II units. Summit racing has the Ignitor (better suited to my engine) for $154.99 (free shipping) SO by waiting I saved at least half going to order one next week (got to pay my gun club dues this week) NICE now I can go a head and finish restoring my distributor.

OK bonus work on Jeep day (4th of July) declaration of independence day not the day we gained independence like people say that happened Sept 3rd 1783 when the Treaty of Paris was signed and we became a sovereign nation indepedant from England. OK s much for the history lesson. I got up 4:30 am got out in the shop 6:30 am and now at 9am I have a good coat of Blue on both fenders and the interior of the hood. I'm going to wait an Hour and put another coat on the fenders (the interior of the hood alread now has 3 coats) Then I'll wait another hour and hopefully with some help flip the Hood over supporting it on 3) screw points I'll wipe it down and spray 3) coats on it. Then it will be time to clean the Treager Grill and get ready for 3 racks of Pork ribs and a 6 dozen Chicken thighs (daughter and grand daughters don't like Pork but then all three will eat a pound of bacon go figure LOL) I got one nice run on the top of the Left fender some how but its in an easy place to sand out once I get 3 coats on the fenders and allow it to cure up a coupkle weeks, Other wise so far looking pretty good, |

OK so first coat of color on the Hood I'm getting plenty of Orange peel but I guess that comes with the territory and will color sand out. Half hour break and I get another coat on the hood.

Outside of the Windshield Blue hoping to get a coat on the inside frame edge if its below 80 this week. Otherwise Sunday morning then Ill do the Black/Gray trunk paint on the inside nice antireflective coating. Also will get sealer on tailgate Sunday morn. If it lays down nice I might get the color on it.
No new photos maybe Sunday. |

Been hot here too, I'd rather paint in the winter that way I can control the temperature. Orange peel can be from too thick paint, mix a small batch with a bit more reducer and try it somewhere that doesn't show. Good luck.

Do want you want to do. I have been building Jeeps for over 50 years and I have always built them so I can use them. No trailer queens here.
My best Jeep is a 3B, nothing special, It does have a V6, OD, PTO winch and 11' brakes. A lady friend asked me what was the last vehicle I would sell, yep, the Jeep. I have owned it for over 35 years. |

Interesting I have stated a number of times its my intention to car show Chug the first summer its completed. But I'll be driving it to them as well as to work and any number of short adventures (hard to go on a long adventure when from April to Nov. you typically get one day off a week). After that I doubt I will bother with anything but the one or two local shows I have a connection to. CHUG will most likely never even be flat towed anywhere lit a lone on a trailer.

OK so today I flipped the windshield frame over and touched up the Blue on the edges. I will be waiting about 8 hours (should be a good 90 degrees by then) to tape off the inside of the frame for where I want to paint the Black/Gray splatter trunk paint for my non reflective finish. I might wait until the temp dips below 80 at around 9pm to put the trunk paint on. I don't want it to dry on the way to the frame from the can! I'm also going to try to get the sealer coat on the tailgate here in a bit. Got to wait an hour or two for the Windshield frame to cure up a bit before I risk moving it. Going to be a challenge to find a way to shield it from over spray. |

11.30am Sunday July 29th 2018 Unless I have to redo something for some yet unknown reason I am done painting Blue paint on Chug. I still have the Black/Gray trunk paint to do on the inside of the Windshield Frame and once I get it made I will have to paint the 1/8" thick aluminum panel that will go on the inside of the Tailgate Jet Black. But that is down the road a bit. When I build the 15" box extension that will get painted blue of course. Any more painting I have to do from now on will be rattle can stuff. Next big painting project is going to be the Roll Bar going to use VHT Roll Bar epoxy Satin Black paint (I want something that can easily be touched up) And the inside the Wheel house Tire swing mount braces again with VHT rattle can. |
