As for adding the shocks, this can be done fairly easy. First you will need a pair of Military Trailer or Willys CJ2/3 early 5 "rear" u-bolt plates with the lower stud welded to the plate or weld a stud on your plates. see the images three posts down. The you will need the Military Trailer upper shock mounts - here is a good web page on a restoration and about 3/4 of the way down he goes into detail on the upper shock mount: http://www.jeepdraw.com/WILLYS_TRAILER_RESTORATION.htm Edited by 48cj2a - 30 Sep. 2016 at 7:04pm |

A couple of you were asking about adding shocks to your Bantam T3-C so I thought I would start a new post so we don't have to keep doing this in nickcolemans thread.

Art, Do you know if the axle bumpers (#3 above) are the same as the bumpers for the CJ's at Walcks (http://walcks4wd.com/insulator-axle-bumper-all-4wd.html) ? I can't read the number for the shocks but it looks like A-160. Again, any specifics on the shock would be helpful. Thanks.

Those bump stops are a repop and very simular. The rubber would need about half trimmed off or more but will certainly work for all practice purposes as they are.
The shocks listed in the above is Willys part # A-169 A quick search on the G503 page shows this being the same shock used on the front of the Military WWII MB and GPW Jeeps so I would think an equivalent CJ2A front shock would work too. |

Look about have way down this write up and you will see how the bracket and eye mount can be reproduced. The images show how it was riveted and welded to the frame. I cut the rivets on yours and the outer piece is original frame material. http://jeepdraw.com/WILLYS_TRAILER_RESTORATION.htm
For all practical purposes you should be able to locate on the frame, drill new holes and bolt them on. I'll get a frame measurement tonight after work of where the mounting holes should be on the frame on my original 45 trailer which has the holes in it as being a left over Bantam T3 frame. |

Hi Art,
I finally started the resto and teardown of my BT3C. Any chance you can still send me the measurements for the upper shock mount location? Second question is that I have vintage Dietz 6-06 taillights that came on the trailer and only have a red and black wire on them. Do you know what color wire on a 4 flat harness goes to the red and black? Thanks, Ed

I haven't installed these on my trailer yet, but I did restore a WWII military jeep and want to pass on some info...
If you use rods or bolts to make your own shock mounts, they need to be drilled for a cotter pin hole. After the shocks slide on the pins, they need to have the rubber bushing compressed, a washer installed and then a cotter pin to hold the shocks on. I thought the early Bantams were bucked or drilled for the shock mounts, so that should be an easy way to locate the holes for the shock mounts. My trailer has bump pads over the axle with two bolts holding them on and I was hoping those could be removed and used as the shock mount holes, but I'm reading that it is a different location. Also, if you research the G503 site, I think you will find a NAPA or Monroe shock number that will fit for the jeeps and, therefore, the trailer. I've got a WWII trailer that I cut down for a mchine gun mount, but it still has the shocks on it if anyone needs measurements or photos. |

I have the civilian Bantam which has no markings or holes for top shock mounts. I’m just going to estimate and go for it and adjust as necessary. The shock mounts have to be grounded down in order to fit within the frame rail. Sucks because I already had them powder coated. Oh well. I’ll post pics when I do the install.

I can do so in the morning. I went out and felt where the shock mount was bolted through the MBT frame and it is about 2 1/2" from the rear spring bracket. It appears to be one bolt coming up through the bottom of the frame rail.
On my T3C, there is a hole in that exact location. The shock is at a surprising leaned back anle from the lower mount to the upper mount. I'll pull my whell off the MBT and take some photos and measurements in the monring. Hope they help. |

OK, this is what I got. I had an original MBT or T3 that the tub and lunette were missing, so I cut it down and used for a machine gun platform. But the suspension is original.

This is the original shock mount. The little angle bracket that appears at the endof my cut off frame is the rear fender bracket on a full zise frame.
