(This is not an offer to Sell)
Four years ago I posted here asking about how to sell. Did CL, had a couple of bites but no takers. Have only gathered dust since then. The question becomes perhaps I should be at a near "give away price". 46 CJ2A,sn 15720, tub on rolling frame with axles, xfer, and trans. Otherwise completely disassembled in boxes. Engine on stand, head and studs removed, scripted Ford head (milled). Tub and frame, fenders, seat frames all sandblasted. No 2A windshield but have a 3A windshield frame to through in. Not wanting to part out. Time has come (a long time ago) for me to understand, this all needs to go and go sooner rather than later. (Life will not get out of the way...too much other good things-7 grandchildren, a house, a mobile home park to operate, a 3A [a finished one], a Corvette, and a classic Ford Tractor). Previously I was given good advice on where to advertise, now I need suggestions on what asking price will move this along without a total give away? (Actually I have thought of donating to a automotive tech school but think that would be more difficult than a reasonable sale.) Thanks for any thoughts. Don Parrish Phoenix |

That would be "throw" in not "through". Don

Don,
$1,500 to $1,800 would be my guess around here on a disassembled Jeep in so so condition. If you put it back together even without painting or repairing anything it probably has a high chance of someone buying it. Stev

Don,
Still a lot of variables about what you have so really hard to even give a range of value. Posting pics of the sheet metal would be very helpful. For me, if I can't hear an engine or gear box run/rotate I assume a full rebuild is in order an assign just a core valve. Just been burned too many times. So focus on how good the sheet metal and brackets is the value to me.

to many jeeps, parts, and accessories to list here, but apparently enough to keep me in trouble with my wife. |

This is exactly how assess one also....it's not the happiest news for a seller but like Joe says what sellers have at that point is a 'parts jeep' whether they want to see it that way or not. They may have heard it run (sometime) or shifted it through the gears but unless they can give a buyer that same option it's a moot point to the negotiation and everything just has to be given a core value. I fully understand your life situation but on the other hand the seller is the one making that decision and not the buyer.....therefore the seller has the burden of loss, not the buyer. Good luck with the sale. |

OK 15 min on Tempest search (searches all of Craigslist based on various options) This is what I found Redding CA 1946 CJ-2A complete not running w/ Hard top $2500 Portland OR 1947 CJ-2A 10 year old frame off restoration w/1100 miles $9000 Santa Rosa CA 1948 CJ-2A project clean title $2000 Reno NV 1948 Parts rig CA title no drive train heavily modified $300 Auburn CA 1948 Good runner OD Dana 44 rear new brakes roll bar nice soft top $5000 Healdsburg CA 1948 Daily driver original drive train New tires wheels 12V $7500 Inland Empire CA 1949 CJ-2A runs great registered warn winch extra street tires wheels $5000 South Dakota VEC 1946 Column shift running valid SD title new brakes $6800 North Phoenix 1947 CJ-2A running needs battery roll bar $3700 Looking at that to ask more then $1500-1800 for a big pile of parts requiring a trailer to haul home I think would be a stretch. Multiple daily drivers listed for 5 grand. And very complete fix it up and drive it offerings for less. And this like I said was 15min of searching Only using the terms Willys CJ-2A

Thanks to all.
Stev: Major parts reassembled might help. Probably will do. Joe DeYoung: Right, pictures always pictures. Me, not so good at that. There is a picture of what I started with posted 5/11/14. as "This is a test". No denying "what you can not hear...". Rocnroll: Yes, my loss. Not the biggest loss I ever had, but that doesn't help either. Mark W: Ouch! Reality is a b----. Thanks, I had forgotten about that CL search. For now I think I will go with partial reassembly, pictures of before and after along with pictures of other pieces and parts and give it a try at $1500. If that doesn't do it, then it will just be pricing. Or? What's a clear AZ title worth..or a scripted head...or a baked and repaired radiator...and so on. Maybe I should reconsider "parting" to avoid a complete bath. Thanks again. Don |

The problem with parting is you will be left with the not so good that is hard to sell.

" What's a clear AZ title worth.."
I generally consider a good clear Colorado title, plus or minus, worth $300. From another state, a little less, because it's more hassle to exchange it for a CO title. BW

The hassle in Colorado stems partly from the requirement to have the VIN verified, which I have had to do three times when I brought vehicles from Ohio. I don't know how it works when you have a pile o' parts from another state.

This turned up in my area of northern California: https://chico.craigslist.org/cto/d/orland-willys-jeep/6768889794.html I paid $1800 for my '46 in running, but not driving condition. I say that only because it had a tow bar, so I hooked it to the wife's suburban. It is basically complete original drivetrain, but with so so body work, which I could care less about. And I have not yet checked the brakes. In march of 2018, I passed up a willys like yours for $300 because the wife would have skinned me Alive, had I drug home all of the pieces. The chassis and drivetrain was complete with dana 44 rear too. So, in the painful-end, I hope you find a buyer. You may be better off to individually sell pieces, and may find a buyer for the whole chabang. |
