Here's some more pictures, the top is in perfect shape. Plenty of rust on the jeep but none on the top. I bought the hole thing for $700.00 and it has a great running Supersonic engine.

Lee,
That sure looks like the same construction as mine, including the windows.

Yours appears to be steel. I'm guessing that the aluminum models could not take the stress as well as steel and they gave them a full door hinge apposed to three.

Any markings?

How is the rear filler panel attached to the floor? Yours appears to be missing. So, I'm not sure if you can tell.

Thanks,
Micah

I took the rear panel out to clean out the cab,it was just screwed in. I haven't found any markings on it anywhere.

Lee,

My top looks to be the same model as yours. Although I have a good amount of rust to take care of. How does the cab mount to the tub? Sheet metal screws all around?

Yesterday, I did a test fit on the top. I couldn't get her on there before until I removed the mirror and the door mounts. After 70 years, a couple of the bolts had to be cut off.

Unfortunately, I think this isn't going to fit. The seller represented it as being on a 2A. From the photos, it looked right. I paid for it sight unseen because I did not want to miss out, When I went to pick it up, I had difficulty identifying which Jeep he had.

With it sitting on my Jeep, the doors look about right but the windshield both on the sides and top do not line up. I'm assuming this is for a 3A but I'm not sure.

Not pleased with my expenditure for something I thought would work.

Am I missing something here?

Micah

Unlatch the windshield latches, bring the windshield out tight to the top. Center it and make it parallel and put a few screws into the windshield frame, just enough to hold it in place. Wiggle the top around until the top fits and the doors work. Shouldn't be to difficult. Don't sell cheap because someone convinced you it won't fit. It's just like my steal one and it's on a 2a.

If you zoom in on the catalog page you can see that both standard half tops are universal fit.

If I bring the windshield forward, the gap at the base increases.
The catalog I have does not indicate universal.

You may have to loosen the windshield mount brackets and slide the windshield straight down, and they show one part number for the half top to fit from CJ2-CJ6 and military so I'm assuming they are the same.

In looking at the steel top, it does appear to be one model. I guess it could be assumed that the aluminum is the same.

If it was universal, why did the seller have it mounted so poorly. He cut the arms off the windshield and welded a metal bar the entire length of the sides of the windshield?

The  top could have been on quite a few different jeeps, it may have been on a 3A. Or maybe the guy was just an idiot.

Your windshield frame might be bent a little. It wouldn't be the first time one that got sprung back. Maybe someone on here with a hard top would give you a measurement of their windshield frame to compare yours with.

Micah, just out of curiosity what year is the catalog? Must be quite a bit earlier than 1976 for the 70$ price diff. Like you I thought the long(piano) hindge made more sense on Al....just a misprint. Joe W

I have no idea what year it is. Something I just found on the internet.
I do see that your catalog requests model, year and serial number information.

Don’t give up.
You have a great looking half cab.

The arms on a 2a windshield frame are usually bent.
Try removing the pivot bolts on the windshield arms, then see if the windshield frame will contact the top, at that point if it looks good, you may half to bend the arms into a new position.

Good luck

I agree, the arms can be bent just a little, and on a CJ3A the side mount brackets had elongated mounting holes. You can tip the windshield that way too. Wink
