Howdy
Been searching these pages without much luck. It seems there is a lot of talk about he indents under the drivers seat but my 46 has indents for the ax and shovel above the left rear wheel. It seems most from 1946 don't. Any info on when those were added or subtracted? Thanks Mark

are you talking about the top bow pockets on the left side. They are made of sheet metal spot welded to the side panel.

In 48 years of being around Willys Jeeps I have never seen any "slotted holes" above the rear wheel opening for an Axe or shovel to fit in. It would sure be helpful if you could post a photo. How to post a photo |

Those are bow pockets for part of the canvas top assembly and have nothing to do with the axe and shovel. Axes and shovels were not a part of the options for any CJ series jeeps. There may have been indents on the side of the jeep under the drivers door on Very Early Civilian (VEC) production bodies, but that was using up existing war production body parts. I have seen some stow an ax in the rear pocket, but it wasn't put there for that purpose.

Thank you. Why do some have those storage spots and some do not?

they are commonly removed from 2A's when body work is being done. They also were not included on CJ3A's.
