Looking for ideas on cam wear and broken teeth. Engine was built by others in 2017, driven 1,300 miles.. fiber gear Teeth are worn knife sharp on one side (were teeth are broken) much less on opposite side. ( see pics) ?. I scoped thru plug holes and valves look good and move as they should. No binding when I turn cam, thrust plate and spacer are new, endplay is good. Crankshaft gear is new also . Crank endplay is .006. Dropped oil pan all is well. Oil spray nozzel is .070 and clean as was oil filter return. Hate to replace without finding cause. OCD i guess Thanks for any input. DAVID

Wow never seen that before.
Obviously the teeth on crank gear is chewing the driven cam gear. Beyond absence of lubrication I can imagine: 1) Sharp edge teeth or defective pressure angle on the drive gear 2) defective quality camshaft driven gear 3) camshaft end float is not controlled 4) crankshaft end float is not controlled

I would double check to see if Crank end play is within spec's then make sure the Crank gear is smooth. If not looking perfect I would replace it. I would then reduce the orifice in the oil nozzle to .040" as per Willys change.

I thought about gear alignment but I couldn't come up with a way to check without comparing to another gear maybe. I checked and am sure crank and cam runout is correct and checked again after you and another poster mentioned it. Oiler is clear as I use compressed air to verify. Super clean too. Do you think a NOS fiber gear could deteriorate on the shelf over 30 plus years.. gear was stamped USA but it is not stamped as Celoron. Thanks David

Simply being NOS does not signify OEM nor equal quality.
I have used and would not hesitate if you happen across an OEM cam gear from WO.
