Hey gang,
The summer top on my 47cj2a is about 20 years old now. Beachwood slate gray. I just washed a lot of trail dirt off it and would like to treat the canvas. Is Canvack still the best? Or may the new hydrophobic treatments like rustoilum sells?

I would stick with Canvack if that is what was originally used on your top which has held up for 20 years.

I am with Oldpappy on this. The "old" Canvack worked well for at least 20 years. Why change that? Besides, hopefully the formula has not changes enough in that time to have the "new" Canvack react badly with the "old" Canvack. You could call Canvack and ask about compatibility with the old formula. I would bet it would be fine. With the new hydrophobic treatment you got to wonder, how much work is it to assure that the new hydrophobic treatments does not react badly with the 20 year old Canvack treatment? I would stay with what I know works.

I've used Canvak on various automotive canvas tops for over 20 years and it has done an excellent job of keeping the tops from leaking as well as preserving the fabric. I retreat mine every year and would not change. Plus it desirable old car smell.

Does the canvas overspray mess up the vinyl windows or mess with the Jeeps paint ?

I get Canvak by the gallon and brush it on. I take the top sections off first and drape them over the clothes line.
