I would like to drill out my 2A body for the lower canvas door attaching socket. This hole was lost when the entire panel was replaced in the rebuild. Fortunately I still have the original hole for the top body socket, so all I need is the vertical spacing from the centre of the top hole/socket to the centre of the lower hole/socket.

Can anyone help me with this dimension please?

Mike

Mike,
Familiar thread.  Seems you're still working the location.

Searching, I found our thread back in 2019, but clicking on jpet's link, it showed some measurements that should get you to the point of drilling.

Hey Rus,

Yup, I think we're talking about different sockets. I'm not referring to the sockets for the lower door hinge. I'm referring to the female sockets located in the body above and below the side mirror bracket, into which the male stud is pressed to secure the door canvas material to the body. Did you take a look at the photo I posted?

Thanks,

Mike

I would not drill the snap attachment holes until you have your top installed and then locate the holes from the canvas door to prevent a mismatch condition.

Belleview ol skool winch soon.

Agreed. But seeing as i am making my own top and can position both socket and stud, i may as well go for the original location, if someone can forward me the info.

I get 5 7/16"on center if you are talking about the holes in your picture.

The top one is located 2 3/8" above the body seam.

Mike,
Yes I did.  The "socket" title threw me off.  I saw the snaps and ignored them......  My bad.

Yet another difference between old and new.  I would've thought those were fasteners or something other than socket.

Glad others that knew jumped in with what you needed.

LOL No worries Rus!

I actually bought the two parts of the fastener from Walcks and have been trying to figure out how to install them. But before that I need to figure out WHERE to install them. It seems the entire thing is called a fastener, but the female part on the jeep is called a socket and the male part on the canvas is called a stud which is installed together with a special washer. This was all top of my mind when I asked the question so it made perfect sense for me, but I see how it could easily be confused with the lower door hinge socket. Anyway, Roc came to my rescue.

As an aside, it seems that you need a special anvil and punch for setting the male stud and special washer in the canvas, so not sure what I'm going to do on that front Confused

I am looking at installing a different snap for which I can source all parts and tools locally. Regardless of that, I would still like to install it in the correct location . Benefits of what I am looking at are that it would be removable, so if it doesn't work, or fails after 500 miles or just looks crap, then I can take it all off.

Thanks again for your replies - users ready to jump in with replies are what makes this forum so great.
