I am getting a new canvas summer top form Kaiser Willys next week and I search the Page but did not find anything about treating the canvas to make them waterproof. Has anybody done this or is it not necessary?  Thanks, Mike

Hi Mike,
Water-proof? Maybe.
Water-resistant is more like it.

Lots of treatments on the market if you search canvas treatments.

What does the manufacturer recommend using?

Good luck!

I would think that the manufacturer of a quality top would use a good quality treated material or treat it as needed. It may need re-treating down the road a ways, but you shouldn’t have to treat a brand-new top. But then, using “Kaiser-Willys” and “quality” in the same sentence? Hmmmm.

Yea I agree, I'd assume the manufacturer would apply the treatment. The canvas I've gotten from OD cloth is treated with something, and as fat as I'm concerned, it holds water without leaking, so either waterproof or heavily resistant, but whatever they used is excellent

sometimes, part of what makes it difficult to find info on this site is due to users starting new threads where extensive thread(s) already exist. where if a little more diligence was put into a search and questions could be added to existing threads, info would be easier to locate.

and, bonus, many of us end up looking at interesting old threads we may not otherwise look at because your new question in old thread brings it up to the front.

as stated above, use both the search here AND the google search. the goog is often far easier and more effective.

frustrations with the search here are understood. no need to comment on that.

this will help us all a little bit. Smile

I thought about doing a post of forum search tips and interweb searches in general but decided against it because even if anybody found it, nobody would read it. LOL

No caps means you are much more likely to spill your Canvak.
