I've got a number to add to Jon's list. It's "505", which didn't appear on his list, and when I spoke with him today, he confirmed that this is a correct number for a WO, 636. If anybody has a way to edit that list, they might want to add this one in there.

Jack,
I think you are interpreting the list incorrectly. The 505 stamped on the flange of the carb base indicates that it is a 636S or 636SA. Those flange stamped numbers are not on the list that is here:
The only numbers on that list are the model numbers such as 636 that live on the brass tag that is often missing from under one of the float bowl cover or other upper carb screws.

You're right Sam. I was confused, as the result of a post the other day (which I can't find now, of course!) that included an exchange between Del and Sean, among others, regarding the stamped number on the flange, and what model carb it was. Without further ado, I looked at the number on the bottom of mine, which is currently in the middle of the desk, awaiting a rebuild kit, and just wanted to pass along what I had found, without regard for the fact that one is a Carter model number, while the other is...???? What IS that flange number for, anyway? <g>

A cross reference to the carb model number?
Edit: Sean will come along and elaborate for us. See this earlier thread:

I don't know why Carter chose to do it this way, but:
The model number will not be found anywhere on the carburetor itself. It was originally on a brass tag, attached to one of the cover screws. When a carb got rebuilt, the tag was often not put back on, so is missing. And ... the flange stampings are not the same as the model number, but can be cross referenced:

CJ-2a 1947 willys : what does I-458 stamped on the main body of a Carter W-O carb signify? Also, on the float bowl, there's a C in a circle, and an O beside large circle that contains the number 475. Any ideas? David
