Possible event Sunday, July 2nd. Drive up above Boulder and do part of the Swiss trail or other ride. Then drive into town for some chow and beers? Emily will drive Lefty. I will have Red and maybe my gpw depending on the trail.

Are you planning on getting on at Sunset, up 4 mile canyon, or above Gold Hill?

Hi Lew,
I might be interested if there isn't a lot of "city driving" involved towing my jeep. Once you iron out some of the details, I'll check it out. You don't think it will be too busy on a holiday weekend? |

Lew, there are several ways. Drive up Left Hand Canyon to mm10 and left up Lick Skillet to Gold Hill and right to 9 on the map, then follow the entire way to 1.
Go up Sunshine Canyon to 9. Use Boulder Canyon to 4 Mile and Sunset town site at the sharp turn near 6, then you are in the middle of the 2 arms and would need to repeat one arm to do the whole route. Go to the Peak to Peak and enter at 1 and go the opposite direction. The rail grade met the train from Boulder at Sunset then could go north all the way to Ward, or take the south arm to Cardinal, near Caribou. Those extensions beyond 9 to north and 1 to south are not driveable. |

Tom,
Ginny is out of town 'til later today so I've not run this past her, but if I/we go you could park your truck at our place and jeep from here. There is not really any city driving from Ft.C. to here. 1211 Linden Dr. Boulder, 80304 |

Hey Terry, thanks a lot for the offer! Not sure I can make the trip yet, but good to know I have options other than 7/72 up from Lyons. It would be good to follow someone who knows the area. I'll keep checking in here to see if it gets off the ground.
Did you see the post from Stan about his accident home from BHR? p.32. He was pretty lucky. |

Terry,
Can I count on you to be the jeep on point? It's been years since I drove the Swiss. Lew

Sure, Lew.
Do we have a start time? I think it would be best to meet in North Boulder, say in the Health Dept/Mental Health parking lot at Iris and Broadway and go north to Left Hand Canyon, up Lick Skillet to Gold Hill and on to the Switzerland trail. Option--up Sunshine Canyon. Snacks for the Mt. Alto picnic ground where the tourist trains used to stop! |

Hey Terry, is there a hidden message in suggesting the Health/Mental Health facility as a meeting place

That sounds like a great plan. Does 9am sound good. Should get us down before the thunderstorms.

Ok, here is the plan so far. We meet at the Health dept. lot at Iris and Broadway in Boulder at 9am. I will meet at my shop in Erie at 8am. If you have a trailer you need to park, my shop has tons of room. Shop is 1109 Telleen Ave. Erie. It is west of County line road on the south side of old town. Mild ride. Bring a snack for the trail. We will hit up a beer and burger joint when we get down. I will do a shop day on Saturday to prep and tune. All are welcome. Say 10 am or later. We plan to hit the coffee and cars in Lafayette in the am. If you need a place to spend the night, let me know. I have one spare room or cots at my shop.

Tom,
Parking at my place will be easier for you since I'm 1.5 miles from the meeting place. |

Do you think that would be better than the Iris/Broadway parking lot? Would they let my truck be there all day? As for your place, remember I flat tow and can't back up. Still good?

The lot on Broadway should not be a problem on a Sunday--I think.
You can pull up my drive and unhitch without backing, then turn the truck around and rehitch later without backing. Let me know which way you want to do it. |
