Took the 1946 CJ2A and a M416 trailer over to the supply yard for a load of pine straw today. I always go the back way which is pretty hilly. It is about a 5 mile run each way. The 416 pulls smooth and you can't even tell it is back there until you start pulling hills. Third gear is great on the flat roads but I have to dump it into 2nd on the long hills.
The specification says the M416 empty weighs about 670 pounds. My 416 has a spare tire so it is probably 700 pounds - which is about 200 pounds more than a T3. I am assuming that this is normal for everyone pulling a Jeep trailer with a L134. Is this what you guys are experiencing pulling the trailers in high range? |

Even without a trailer I'm in 2nd gear on long hills.

I pull a homemade camper trailer with my MB. The trailer weighs about 800 lb. I'm typically down to 2nd gear on long or steep hills, and an overdrive really does help.

Thanks for the replies on towing experiences.
Good to know this is what others are experiencing. Was starting to think I might needed to adjust the throttle linkage to make sure the throttle is opening all the way to get those extra horse running. |
