I also finished up the Battery hold down and finally got the new fuse box.

the battery tray was modified to fit the battery I plan to use. I also utilized some left over parts like the hold, down, J bolt and another long bolt.

I didnt have a cupler nut so I welded three nuts together. and since I hate having random sized bolts next to each other I drilled out and welded the same size nut as is on the J bolt.

Eaton fuse box, 6 relays and 12 fuses. 6 fuses for each really. I went this way so I can also use factory looking plugs.

Note to self, check hood clearance tomorrow...

I am also using an Eaton power distribution relay. I plan to use this for the starter only, each out put stud is good for 70 amps. one will be on the starter, the other i dont know its blank for now.

For the alternator I went with a 140amp circuit braker from Napa

each power lug on the fuse box powers half the relays and fuses. so I plan to use one side from the battery to run the lights, brakes, flashers and a few things. that way i wont have to have the key on to use these.

Got all of the factory body wiring done. everything works.
wired the horn to the fuse box, wired key power to the fuse box, wired the starter to the Eaton relay to the key.
waiting for one more socket to finish up the passenger side turn/run light.
Next is to finish up the engine wiring and make the 4 relays work.
Then wire loom everything button up a few other small things, then take apart and paint the body, build a roll cage, rebuild drivers side seat. the list never ends.

First crank to verify everything.

Got most of the wiring cleaned up. Temp wired the tach and ran a wire to where it needs to be hooked up but due to space that will have to wait till the body comes back off. the last wire to run was the wipers. all and all I am using half the fuse box. so 5 fuses and 3 relays, one seperate relay for the starter and another big fuse for the key to acc/ign.

its pretty busy down there with all the wires but once i get some seat time and the body comes off for paint i should be able to clean up a little bit more. just need to make sure it all works first. I decided to do away with the AC pump for now, I might make it into an OBA system like my TJCJ. the plan for this is to just have my old jeep back but slightly better with the fuel injection.

The dash, the only extra things are the reverse light switch on the left of the steering column. I really couldnt come up with a very good way to have it come off the transmission. and the heater control there on the left bellow the speedo. I really wanted to come up with something for the choke and throrrle cables but nothing came to mind so i used some body plugs. the rest of the holes will be covered up by the data plate. I also wanted to re use my Amp gauge maybe make it into a volt gauge but hate ruining good classic gauges for an experiment. So i went with an after market Bosch volt gauge. All other gauges are stock and working.
The only issue is the oil gauge, it wont come back to 0, if anyone knows a good gauge guy let me know. would love to get it fixed.

its been pretty tempting to throw the shifter back in and go ripping around but i am holding off to get the rest of the things mounted up give it a good once over.

all systems are a go...it didnt even throw any codes. Idles a little high but i think its idle control sensor. the truck i got this mess from had a high idle before i took it apart and i never changed out any sensors. conformed the fan turns on and off...which is nice.

got my new intake hose curtsey of a Land Rover 200tdi engine. its turning into a real soup.

I bought this top from a member on another board, but I think it might be from a jeep that had a non foldable windshield like you see every now and then.

it sits forward about 1.5" unless my windshield is that far off.

its also wide.

Currently trying to dissemble the windshield frame to replace the glass.

waiting on an over flow canister for the radiator, new sensors to fix the high idle, and pin for the transfercase levers as i cant find my original after 10+ years of moving them around. also borrowed a tubing bender from a buddy and bought some DOM 1.5"x0.120 wall to give building a cage a try.

so the w.f. is at 15* relative to the cowl but it measures at 68" from the top of frame to top of tailgate. the 15* sounds about right according to what i have found on here but it should be closer to 66.5". but if it was at that number the gap would be that much wider.

The top is wider than the windshield frame because generally there is a hinge pillar that the doors attach to filling that space. The Koenig type top on my jeep is constructed this way.

i was thinking the same thing it being a 5 top. which would be unfortunate as my 5 already has a pretty nice top.
this one measures 53" at the front

I just caught up with this project - there’s a lot of goodness happening in your shop.  Great CJ2A repower plus a lot in the background like pie crust hot rod tires, Dodge, and a gold poly CJ5 twin to mine.  Good stuff.

Thank you.
the pie crust are car show drivers only as the only markings on them are Made in the USA. thats it, no size, no make, no DOT number nothing. hard to find a narrow cheater slick for a 14 inch wheel

Went to the paint store and got a sample color matched in Krylon direct to metal oil based paint. I think its pretty close. Since I dont plan on adding body filler i was just going to paint with the Krylon. I have a pretty good idea of how its going to turn out but then again not going for anything special. the body has so many dents that i would have to bondo the whole thing and at that point i wouldnt want to take it out into the woods.

I am also going to give a shot at making my own seat covers. the brother in law has a sowing machine as the mother in law so i am going to see if i can borrow it. Thinking of just making slip on covers and adding some 1" high density foam.

Started on the cage. 1-1/2 x 0.120" DOM tubing. made three hoops. two will go to on the rear fenders and one will go across the windshield frame. with some tie bars. Thinking of attaching the front hoop to the dash, similar to the way my TJ is. Also picked up some three point belts from the Pick and Pull from a WJ. If i am going to have a cage I am going to have seat belts.

and finally took it for its first drive. I promptly ran out of fuel down the street from the house, dog was not amused. and this is where the problems started.
it started acting like a carburetor when starting off from a stop i had to feather the throttle. I suspect its the fuel pump?
the other issue is that the clutch got progressively worse and now wont go into gear. even with the rear tires on jack stands and in gear i can push in the clutch and the tires wont spin.

The throw out bearing is coming out i think its at about 1/2" of throw. however i can not spin it when the pedal is not depressed. it also spins when the engine is running but not engaged and i can not slip in any feeler gauges between it and the clutch fingers.

I was planning on taking the body to paint so I will be investigating it further once that happens. I will call Tilton Eng. and see if they have any ideas for trouble shooting.

I really wanted to do an external slave cylinder with a clutch fork but due to the two big pumps on the side of the transmission I was not able to. I did contemplate cutting them off and re welding the case in the very beginning

I also need to add,
the brief time it did run as it should it was great. Tons of power, very responsive throttle, great steering, drove nice and straight

I was out of state on a job assignment so not much work the week before. I was able to figure out the high idle and stuttering. Apparently the computer needs a VSS signal (vehicle speed sensor) pretty much i need to hook up the speedo signal some how. So iam thinking if there is no after market solution for a pass through cable adapter to electronic connection for a ChyrCo computer I have two options.
One use a TJ/XJ wheel type build a bracket and have it driven or spun from the E brake drum. If i have to use the Dodge one build a bracket but modify the ring that Dodge uses from the rear differential once again make it fit on the e brake drum. I dont need it to give me accurate speed i just need to satisfy the signal.

I did get the cage all done. just need to finish welding once i pull it all apart for paint. I build the cage so it should fit underneath a hard top if I ever go that round. I do plan on welding or bolting up some sheet metal as a bikini top. I also plan on installing some three point seat belts.

This will all get trimmed ground down once its off and finished welded. I really couldnt come up with a good way to attach the cage to the dash. I could have done with out the front hoop but wanted to be able to run the sheet metal as a bikini top. plus more protection is is always good.
I also made plates on the back side on all attachment points.

I thought about. But don't know if it's really needed. It has plates on the other side.
That seat came with the Jeep when I first bought it back in the 90s. It mounts to the factory locations. So I assume it's a Jeep seat. I have another one I found in a junk yard pretty sure it's the same. Will have to take a look

It might look like I am just starting this build but it was time to take it all apart again.
Fix some oil leaks in the running gear, trouble shoot the clutch, come up with a VSS to keep the computer happy, and paint the body

Hopefully I will never have to do this again

I had Herm rebuild these and put them all together for me many years ago. once I added oil to everything it started to leak right away. leaked out of the seals on the PTO, from mating surfaces anywhere where it could leak it leaked. I cant blame him since all these sat for so long.
I had pretty good success on my 5 when I resealed it many years ago. The only place it leaks from is from the one spot on the oil pan where i pinched/tore the gasket
