so is this like a hefty push bar or is it like a cover for a crash bar? Another way to say it might be is it for a door with no latch and you just bump it with your hip or does it cover a bar that has to be pressed to disengage the latch? I have never seen one of those before. It’s gotten me to thinking that you could make some with the “Willys” script.......now if that ignites your creative flair then don’t forget who gave you the idea, make two and “YES” I will buy one then.Big smile

Those push bars were for advertizing products and to protect the screen of the screen door at stores and yes I'm going to make some with the "Willys" script from a damage hood in the future. On those push bar after the decals are installed I apply automotive clear with hardener.

So the Mountain Dew ones are decals?  I ask because I remember when they first came out with MD (1963 or so) and I recall the commercials saying "Wa hoo..." instead of "Ya hoo...".  I could be mis-remembering though.
There's a reason it's called Ol' Unreliable

SCREEN DOOR.......now I get it. I was thrown by the panel door you had it on. I blew right by the screen part when I saw the door. It makes more sense now. The Willys script is available as a decal.....BUT you can have the original WILLYS stamping delivered to you stamped on a piece of metal to your size specifications from Classic Enterprises. Classicent.com
It probably beats trying to cut one from a hood and tacking it into another piece.....but you seem very talented.Big smile

The original are worth a lot more, the original one I have in that bad condition is worth  more than the one I made .A mint Coca-Cola screen push bar is at least $400.00 +. I can't afford a good original so I made  a repo for a lot less and it's going to protect my screen.I used 20 gauge galvanized steel, auto paint and clear and it was a fun to make.Rocnroll your coke push bar is really nice. This original one on e-bay is selling for at least $ 515.00 Canadian.

I remember those as a kid in the little neighborhood grocery stores when I was a kid.

Nice work on some older, different memories!

Yes Ralf I welded the seams and for the measurements I start with a piece of 20 gauge steel 5"x32 1/2".
I'm not too good at explaining but here goes, the small lip is 1/4",the side are 3/4" and the top is 3". The two bends are at 45° . For the radius at the ends I use a quarter .  When I cut the sides at 22 1/2° for the bends ,the 1/4" lip I cut it square. It makes it easier to weld and finish.I also use brass eyes for the holes so when they are being fastened it will not damage the paint. The 2 good coats of clear makes a nice finish. Here are some pictures, hope this helps. If you need more info let me know.

Thanks Gil, I am good to go. Did you use a brake? I have a 4' Brake that should easily make the bends.

These are for 2'8" doors correct? Add 4" for a 3-0 door?

Ralph

Ralf, the contours on mine are ALOT more rounded (especially the tops and bottom edges) than Gil's.

Not slamming Gil's projects......just sayin'.

Without a press and a custom-made two-part  die, I think I am left with whatever radius is created on 20 gauge sheet metal when I make a 90° bend on my brake. I'm sure it is possible to make a Jig that I could use in conjunction with my brake to provide for a different radius on the 90° bend but that would entail more Work than I am willing to commit.

there is actually a tool called a Radius Brake that  looks like a normal Brake except that it's two bending surfaces are cylindrical.  From what I have seen it appears that you can change one of the rollers to adjust the radius.
