I have a great opportunity to compare two frames of the 2A. The balck painted one is #10021. (early '45) and the rusted frame # 145032 (late '47) from a scraped frame.
                                            From the '45 parts list
FRAME assembly, includes BRACES, BRACKETS, CUPS, REINFORCEMENTS,ECT., ATTACHING PARTS.....PART No. 640218

                          From the '49 parts list
GROUP 26-01---FRAME ASSEMBLY ( Up to Ser. # 199079)--model CJ2A
Frame Assembly (use 648644)  PART No. 640218
Frame Assembly (use 648646) (Same as frame 640218 except 647009 bell crank bracket replaces 640208 to accommodate inverted bell crank)

I have a little issue here with The #'s 640218 and # 640208. This appears a mistake?

I put these two frames side by side, each side and pic,ed them together. There are alot of pics ...but notice the extra holes on the '47 frame compared to the '45. These look to be stock on the '47.  Take special notice to the sleaved hole in the front. Both '47 & '45 have the sleave but  '45 is worn out to the end of the sleave. There are alot of hole differences. Most looked original. Another interesting difference is the bracket for the rear muffler holder.. it is opposite in these. And then there was no rear muffler in the '45?

640608 is just the bellcrank bracket, superceded by 647009.

640618 and 647048 are the corresponding complete frames which these brackets are attached to.

Then 648646 is a KIT service replacement frame for 647048.

I'll take a closer look at mine w/respect to your photos.

Gary:

I still scratch my head over some of it!  It doesn't help that Willys changed writing style & terminology between manuals, and listed parts under different groups!

I'm workin on that though.

Gary,

#21s frame should not have holes for exhuast hanger in k-member. My frame numbers 10030 thru 17173 (6 of them) do not have holes. My frames after #23281 all have exhaust hanger holes... including #29258 (MB frame). Check out Group 31-01 (exhuast). The exhaust system changes from side exit to rear exit at serial #18638. I would expect the frames to change somehere around then as well, but I don't see any notation in any of the parts manuals to reflect the change in the frame to accomodate this.

to many jeeps, parts, and accessories to list here, but apparently enough to keep me in trouble with my wife.

Maybe why that bracket is 180 degree from the '47. Could have been a dealer that didn't get that right. but got the tailpipe out the rear end.

Gary, Was checking my 14xxx frame and noticed it has the muffler hanger bracket arranged just like your #21. I know they are not supposed to be there But ??  Maybe the dealers were taught to put them on that way or it was easier. ( all the others I have seen are reversed)
Too many jeeps.....GOT JEEP ?
