Here's an example of original covers. I have not seen any exact replacement fabric, though.

Vamshi,
getting the original covers, springs, pans, and horse hair will be tough. kinda like finding a good used set of original tires, shocks, muffler or ignition points. I've been looking for a number of years on only got a set of usable springs...

I just went searching for seat cover pattern postings, and came up empty.. Has anyone yet made a decent pattern of the factory covers? I found a bunch of cheap seat vinyl and I think I want to try making a set of covers for one of my jeeps.

My jeep has the original pan, springs, and hair inside.
The bad news is that I didn't take any pictures when I recovered the seats. (duh) But ... there is a 46 in the "for sale" part of the forum and in one of the pictures you can see the original pan and springs. That's exactly what mine look like. I bought covers from Beachwood Canvas. Not cheap, but they fit real nice over the original hardware. I needed a little extra "stuffing" to make them look right. The hair had become so compressed over the years that the new covers looked funny. I used the polyester fill you can by to stuff pillows to make up the difference. Here is the results: http://users.tellurian.net/vanorden/000_0119_00.jpg If I find any hair in the parts bin I'll take a picture and post it. |

Pictures of the original "hair" pad from the driver's side seat:

When I recovered the seats, I reused the original passenger side pad on the driver's side ... so ... no pictures of that pad. Here is a picture of the original covers. It's an odd angle, but you can see some pretty good detail. http://users.tellurian.net/vanorden/jeep.dash.JPG The original covers were a fabric covered with a "vinyl-like" coating. Not nearly as soft as the vinyl today. More like the seat covers on public transit ... or on a school bus. Edited by chris - 03 July 2010 at 2:42pm |
