I love this thread.  I lucked across a Chevy Deluxe heater maybe a year ago and have a couple old normal Harrisons here.  I will definitely follow your lead and swap the core and backplate.  Not sure how I want to get the defrost plumbing onto the windshield yet.

Well I made more progress on the heater. I painted the original Harrison bottom and the core. I sanded contacts areas so the grounding is good. I tested the heater and it works great.

It is all ready to install now.

Here is a Youtube video I made.

Some more progress....

Like any project doing one thing leads to another. So I have this great working little rebuilt and fancy looking heater... I can't just put it back in the jeep. I should take care of that pesky surface rust and lack of paint before I mount it in the tub besides, how am I going to paint the rest of the tub if this little jewel is in the way?

So now I am masking and de-rusting and painting.

Boy, that is a lot of "Project Creep"! The heater looks good though.

Yes it is a lot of project creep. As you can see though in the photos I am missing my trans/transfer combo. So there is a lot of stuff going on. I am working on that combo, working on the clutch, the flywheel, the starter, throttle linkage, wiring issues, front lunchbox install, new seals and gaskets, steering box issue, all on top of a heater refresh. I am slow and take time researching how to do stuff because I am not a mechanic. I don't remember how I took stuff a part/ so I work on the stuff I can to keep things going. My jeep hasn't been on the road since July of 2020 and I really want to get it on the road for this spring. I wish I knew some locals that I could incentivize with beer and food to give me a hand lol.

You mean my little half tank? Well it came that way when I purchased the jeep. As far as I can tell it had extended at one time under the passenger seat. There is evidence of a tank strap setup on the passenger side , it would also account for the tool box being missing. I am guessing the owner before me might ave taken it out and cut and welded the connector tube. It has a rear tank that holds 15 gals. It also has external fuel pumps for the fitech efi system. The rear tank is a sore spot with me at the moment that I need to address as well. When I fill the tank I need to fill it as slow as possible because for some reason if you fill at a normal speed it will over flow gas all over the place not from the fill hole but from underneath. It flows out all over the rear axle and the ground. I haven’t looked into it at all yet but will have to when I get it all back together. I am not sure if it is vented oddly or not at all or if there is some hose not clamped. But I hadn’t drive to this in so long I forgot about this issue until you asked about the tanks lol. Ugh there is always something.

I finally was able to get some painting done on my jeep. I need to tape off all the sharp edges and some of the areas that might rub trying to install the heater. Then after it is all plumbed I can start on the wiring. I have a question, How does one fill the heater with fluid properly when hooking it up?

So I spent two nights installing my heater into the jeep. It was a lot more difficult than I had thought. I had to end up cutting the bottom lip in two places and folding up the metal in order to have the room needed to install the heater.

Here are some pictures and video of the process.

As you can hear in the first run video the fan motor is running much to fast. I just need to figure out the wiring and voltage reduction for the fan and the install will be complete.

I am pretty happy with this so far.

Well it has been a long time and I am completely done with this project. I was able to buy a 12volt to 6volt reducer on Amazon that was good for 30 amps. I hooked it up and now the heater works as it should. I was able to also hook up the defrost in my cab.
I will post a video soon

Sorry I missed your post related to the switch and 3 ohm resistor. Sounds like you have it worked out.

This is a video of the working heater.

It does really work great. I bought one of these off ebay.  12V 24V to 6V 10A 60W Step-down DC DC Converter 12 Volt to 6 Volt Buck Voltage
https://www.ebay.com/itm/393311972330?hash=item5b93386bea:g:bF4AAOSw7wpgYZrx&amdata=enc%3AAQAIAAAA4ALTIC%2FgOExsE9zs5VkLtDglk4dju4%2FalsFSyLSDkfGh%2Bd0%2FlDDuzGuY0kI2kl%2BQpnDjUSadtIK4miXfyECPRy%2Bbp%2FS519mQ1vUKP5awExo3coJNfbpp5X8mIoifaPJ1HnWJY2xN8CiqJYO%2Fg5EecveZV08E4w5nITvcBwFETp8hSkS%2F5Gn5OLwLzn9Bn%2FLP28JPDNj0xsb%2BII4BL3mGIpuPGYU9fvbbt7hGU1YayiVIQrhixsn8gSuUDWflUx3Fd0E6bnXsW2OASk9zownP9SsS1mS3sA5W1Jp2gj4YIOCD%7Ctkp%3ABFBMism417Vi

It works really well, easy to wire up and has a fuse inline.

Here is a video of it working.

Nice work.  I have one of these in reasonably decent condition that I need to restore as well.
