I sounds like you were around Denver when your screw drivers kept walking off. I grew up in Arvada and worked in Denver. We had to check for winos under the trucks taking a kip before we moved them. I was in Ft. Collins and it was a good storm and we had dig out the driveway for hours, all we had was my square point shovel to do it. I leaned against the house wall and the next morning it was gone. I don't think anybody would ever steal anything that required a physical effort to use. My neighbors had their chairs was removed from their front porch. I suppose it was OK as the thief left them a yard gnome as payment. Don't know where they stole it from.

Tim, Can you send me a parts & pricing list. I have two of these on my 1969 FJ40 Landcruiser. One of my levers broke off and I can’t tell if it’s in FREE or LOCK mode. How do I know if I need a rebuild?

Todd,

Sorry to hear about your hub lever. I could send you a price list, unfortunately I'm not sure the parts from the 10 spline jeep model will mate up with the 6 spline cruiser version. I have not came across one in person, so I couldn't speak to compatibility of bolt pattern, lever length, or housing diameter. It would be unfair of me to assume they would match up..

I would suggest looking on the web for another 6 spline donor hub to pick clean. Sometime you'll run across someone selling a single hub etc. Knowing when to rebuild your hubs is a personal decision and would be determined by usage. If you have a broken lever, it would be time to remove them, clean them up, check for cracks, re-lube, and reinstall. I wish I could be of more help. Maybe another cruiser owner could help you in your search.

Sincerest apologies, Tim

The Dualmatic on my cruiser looks very similar to yours. Not sure how many splines it is because I didn’t open it up but I will take your word for it. The model number was hard to read but I think it was 285417. The lever length was 82mm and the base height of the unit looked a little more than 3 1/2 inches. Would that be considered tall?

Surely someone here has a lever on a broken hub that they could spare. One of my Dualmatics has a homemade replacement lever. There's really not much to it. This one has a row of center-punch marks on the "LOCK" side. Sometimes Bubba did OK!   BW

I saw a single Dualmatic hub on ebay this morning. Might check there.

There is currently an NOS set for 6 spline Land Cruiser on eBay for $200. It has everything with it as well.

I saw those. Tempting but if I was going to spend that kind of money I would get Aisin’s. Looking for the cheap fix.

Hi Tim - My 1952 CJ3A has what appear to be Dualmatic hubs, but the decal reads "Wards Riverside". I'm guessing that the are Dualmatics re-branded by Montgomery Ward. Have you ever seen this variation, and do you think that Dualmatic parts will work with these hubs?  Thanks, Matt

Matt, looks like a ringer to me. A lot of drivetrain components were rebranded by Department stores back in the day. I might even have a Wards 4WD jeep parts catalog that has them listed.
I would say there is a strong chance that it’s a Dualmatic with a Wards label.

A little off topic, but does anybody have a good source for the original parkerized style bolts? They're 3/8"-16 x 3" with the black finish.
