What is a buy back motor? Just curious.

even though it is listed as a "buy back", it actually isn't. All 1945 CJ2A's were assembled before Willys ceased MB production.
therefore, the Gov't hadn't started selling off surplus yet... that motor actually left the factory as a civilian motor in a 2A in a serial number range of 700-900...... the motor WAS originally slated to be an MB engine, but the "B" designation in the serial number means it was set aside to have either the rods or mains reconditioned and new over/under size bearings....

It has a "straight-ahead" thermostat housing, too. That wouldn't have been for a Jeep, would it? Not that there's anything wrong with that, it's just a curiosity.

There's a reason it's called Ol' Unreliable
