Has anyone used one of the Eastwood Contour SCT's before?  Or even the Bauer or Porter Cable knockoffs?

I'm trying to remove everything from my panels, paint, bondo and rust and I've heard these things are supposed to work pretty well.  The problem is every video I see of them, they go over the same spot multiple times and they never do like a 12" square section, from start to finish.

From the videos I've seen, it seems to work as fast as a wire wheel on a 4" grinder....

Just wondering if anyone has used them before.

I've seen the videos too and it's depicted as being a productive tool. I'm curious how much heat gets produced by using it on open, flat panels. If it's anything like the 3M stripper wheels it should remove most coatings yet not dig into the metal.

Also curious how much replacement abrasive wheels cost. With the price of the two units you linked fairly close, my choice would be the Eastwood.

I ended up using a while wheel on a grinder and a sandblaster to get down to bare metal. It seemed to be as fast or faster that’s the videos I’ve seen.  I posted to all my friends on Facebook to see if anyone local had one I could try, but no luck.

New drums from Eastwood are in the 20-50.00 range, but I don’t know how long they last.

Maybe I’ll get one for the next project.

I used a few of those paint removal wheels that go on the 4 1/2” grinder. They really excel at removing Bondo and thick layers of paint and do fairly well on rust, and they aren’t supposed to cut into the metal. I didn’t have any trouble with them making heat on flat panels, but you do need to keep it moving and not put to much pressure on it. Cost isn’t to bad, I think on average they are about $10-12 a wheel locally, I did try some that were $5 per wheel from Amazon and they actually work really well.

Unless you are using it commercially, my opinion would be for the price of the Eastwood you could buy a bunch of the 3M type paint removal wheels for a grinder.

As stated, I also have had good luck with them for paint and filler removal. Only drawback is running through them fairly quickly....they don't produce near the heat of a flap wheel or wire wheel in my experience.
