I came across this little item a while back and finally got it home today.
Crate is marked:
2805-736-9924
ENGINE
1EA A/A 3/67
WT 620 CU 22.4
SERIAL NO. 1MB-43206
INSP 3/67 300 T4

Appears to be a NOS factory replacement engine with the manifolds, carb, linkage, bell housing, generator, water pump, fuel pump, clutch parts, distributer, plugs, wire.  (added 9-4-22.  also has coil, oil filter housing and mounting bracket, oil filler tube and dip stick, oil lines, fan belt.)
Has anyone ever seen one of these?
It has everything sealed and unit painted black.

i am incapable of loading photos so you will have to use your imagination.

Hybicki.

There was a crated MB engine that came up on eBay 6 or 7 years ago.  I think it sold for around $3500.  Army Jeep Parts had one for sale awhile back too.  He wanted a ton of money.  It might have been the same engine.  Not sure.

I haven't seen one since back in the sixties when you could order one from Sears. The one my uncle got was painted a pale greenish color though.
If you can't get there in a Jeep you don't need to be there!

Answers to a few questions i've been asked.

This crated engine has not been removed from the crate ever.
It is painted black prior to going into the crate.
I got it as part of a package purchase of GPA and Dodge parts collected over 40 years ago.
The previous owner has had it for more than 20 years in climate controlled dry storage.
It was purchased at Jefferson WI swap meet 20+ years ago.

I would have to dig for the Bill of materials for that specification, but the "1" in front of the MB in the engine number designated that it was manufactured for the parts system, not to be installed at the factory. Purely from memory (which ain't what it use to be) I'm thinking 1950-1954.

my error, I thought it said 13206 not 43206. Kaiser Jeep...

I didn't know they were building MB motors as late as 67.
Now I know!

James-  it has some later model bolt ons, is the block a 908756 casting?

CAN'T SEE THE CASTING NUMBERS, I DON'T WANT TO REMOVE IT FROM THE CRATE AND DAMAGE THE CRATE (PLUS ITS A PAIN IN THE ASS).  SEVERAL HAVE EXPRESSED AN INTEREST IN IT AND I WILL FOR SURE BE SELLING IT TO SOMEONE.  I ONLY HAVE M151 SERIES VEHICLES SO IT WON'T FIT INTO ANY PLANS I HAVE.  I MAY REGRET THAT IN THE FUTURE BUT I'M OLDER AND DON'T SEE A PROJECT LIKE THAT COMING UP.

James,

The later Lhead blocks, as mbullism pointed out, had some other visual clues. The block he mentioned has 4 small holes for drive rivets to attach an ID plate.

I'll send you an email.

(email from Klairmont Kollection sent).

Is it not a replacement engine for an M38?

An M38 engine would have an entirely different ignition system, carburetor, and I think, oil filter, among other things.

The front engine support plate at the motor mount faces rear so it isn't an M-38 series motor. It would fit a MB as configured.

It would sure fit in Ol' Red. She has a M-38 frame but years ago I moved the left hand motor mount rear so it would fit my Sears 2A engine.

There were still some MB's in the Army inventory in the mid-sixties. I remember the Commanding General at Fort Monmouth, NJ had one that he reviewed the troops on Saturday morning parades in. That would have been July and August 1966.
