I have an industrial engine block, out of a Hobart welder. The head is off and there's a stamp on the block, above water pump stamped RJ291845.  I'm just curious as to what these this means. It's a 804380 which I've been able to find out it's between '46-'49.

804380 is actually 1949, CJ3A and newer. ‘45, ‘46 had 638632 cast blocks. Im not sure when it changed to 641087, but all of my ‘47s have the 087 cast block. Most CJ2-A’s had the 641087. I’m not absolutely positive, but I suspect your “R” designates a Replacement engine, what’s referred to as a “crate engine” today.
