I took apart my manifolds today and with the gasket was this what looks like galvanized metal shaped like the gasket, snay idea what it is?

Metallic sandwiched gasket, now coming apart into its various layers.

I mean the actual gasket part you see is the normal gasket, matches what I have now...

  Probably a spacer used for a shim to align the exhaust and intake manifold to the ports in the engine block.
