Looking to make a Rat patrol Jeep for myself and I am looking for a fake 50 caliber machine gun to mount in cargo area of Jeep. Wood, plastic or steel.

Any helpful suggestion would be kindly appreciated

(due to possible litigation this name has been blocked),
Get a copy of Military Vehicles magazine if you can. It has a bunch of advertisements for what you are looking for. I will check some of my old magazines for you this weekend.

I won't mention any particular brand names - since I don't want to favor any one of my friends' choices over others - but there are 3 basic types I've seen available (not counting de-milled MG's). The metal ones tend to be the most expensive - but are not usually as detailed as the resin or plastic ones. Some of the metal ones have the advantage of being capable of "firing" on propane gas. The resin ones are the most realistic (IMHO), but are fairly expensive. The plastic models I've seen have been cheaper, but not as realistic as the resin models. I have to admit that the plastic replicas I've seen up close have been 30 cal, M16 and M60 models. I know several companies make the 50 in plastic as well - but I've only been able to examine the metal and resin replicas of the 50. Don't know how your state laws are there - but here in California, even in our rural areas, I would never think of moving an MV with a weapon mounted on it unless it was to or from a parade, and our local Sheriffs had been alerted that I was going to display a replica weapon. Even my relatively-small M16 and M60 replicas have gotten a big reaction on the rare times I've displayed them.

Would like a cheap one. Not worried about local police as this will never be on road. Would even consider making one out of wood but really do not have the time at present. Any links would be helpful

I know that I've seen sevveral threads on this over on the G, including plans for cutting one out of steel, and I believe, if my memory is working, that they used a surplus barrel. However, as others have already mentioned, I think you're gonna be looking at upwards of $500 for the ones that they're talking about over there. (To the military types, I gather that money is no object, when it comes to their Jeeps! <g>)

Hey Jack,
I didn't know you were into the repli-guns for jeeps crowd! <g>  Next thing we know, Turquise will have a pedistal and 30 cal for all your trips to Reids to get him motivated on Junebug!

Hey! And you thought it was just you "westerners" who needed MGs, huh? <g>

Actually, we may end up "fixing" that carb with one o' my old Japanese "knee mortar" rounds, if it doesn't start cooperating soon! Sigh. Still can't seem to get the flow adjusted correctly.

SPORTSMANSGUIDE.COM has the resin 50 cal , i just bought 1 was 290 shipped with my discount and a coupon i had, think it lists there for 300 or less, i had to repaint it didn't like the color, also had to drill holes to mount it in the cradle on the jeep, it will be good enough for parades since people will not be up close to it

Actually, now you've gotten me started looking here, (due to possible litigation this name has been blocked)! <g> Here are a couple more URLs for you to check out. The first one is probably the least-expensive that I've seen thus far ($325), but some opinions on the G would have you believe that it's not particularly accurate. I doubt that you're going to be a stickler for that level of accuracy, will you? (I mean, if you're starting out with a 2A...<g>) The last few are sites that produce various replicas, and the last one has a price tag of about $2K! Your choice! <g>
