Very inspirational!  Just seeing this thread.  Makes me not feel so bad about whenever I start putting mine together from the pile of parts I have.

That is definitely a CJ3A type frame, much stronger than the 2A frame, but that doesn't necessarily mean the Jeep is a 3A.

I have had two late 48 2A Jeeps which were built on that type frame. In late 48 they were sending the last 2As down the line along with the first 3As. The only difference in the frames is those used for the 2A don't have the staggered engine stands as were used on the 3A, so you can tell which you have by that. As you probably know the 3A driver side motor mount was forward of the mounting plate to make room for the larger 2 stage fuel pumps.

Amazing to me that you got that engine running good. From the first pictures I would have wagered against that happening, but it is very cool you did it.
If you can't get there in a Jeep you don't need to be there!

Thanks, this one has the forward motor mount like a 3A and the body had the 3A style tool box lip, I didn’t bother to measure the wheel well to see if it’s to 3A spec. But then it has the bottom mounts for the radiator. It’s hard to tell what it started as

The hydraulic lines came today so worked on connecting lines. I ended up belt driving the pump, it’s not the best way to do it, but the pump wasn’t going to fit in front of the engine like I wanted. But the winch is up and running.

Almost done with the winch, had to replace the input seal and also added some tow hooks that a member had gave to me years ago.
Pulled the hood off to fix the hinge and front edge, and it turned into welding the rear brace and a filling all the holes and a quick wire brush and primer. I think someone had mounted a tire to the hood and it did a lot of damage.

this is exciting to see you bringing this vehicle back to useful life.

just one suggestion that is an easy fix and involves the safety of your winch line if you are going to use wire rope clips (and you should consider replacing them with high quality ones like Crosby brand):

Thanks, I’ll definitely add another clamp and flip them to the correct orientation before using it, I don’t really trust these clamps very much, they are just cheap box store brand. I intend to bring it to the local logging supply and have them clamp a proper ferrule and thimble on it.

getting a thimble and ferrule is the way to go. wire rope clips can be problematic and rough on your hands.

The master cylinder has been leaking badly, so decided to replace it. Figured i would also try to tighten up the pedal pivot while under there. I found some parts that were not as worn, plus i found a tightener. Its not perfect but its much better, and no more body rub.

Finished up recovering the passenger seat,.My sewing isn’t pretty but it’s functional enough for now, I’m still learning how to run my singer 111 and contend with the clutch motor, hopefully I can put a servo motor on it in the future.

I have one of those old singer machine (211 W151) that has the clutch motor on it that I had a hard time controlling the speed.  I made a speed reducer by adding another set of pulleys and it works good now.  It dropped the top speed down but it is still fast enough for me.

Thanks!
I had seen that done with the pulleys and have thought of trying it. I really don’t need it to run at the full 3k rpm it can do now . But otherwise it’s been a huge step up from the home machine I’ve been using and it makes this heavier work super easy.

So I've been working on a windshield. This one started pretty rough, but its coming along better than i expected. I tried forming the corner parts in my pipe bender, it worked reasonably well but took a lot of grafting to get them to go in.
