Thanks for the suggestions folks. The old bushing was in there pretty solid after many years, but came out okay. The new adapter bushing seemed to go in just fine. No issue with the threads. And then of course the new sensor fit into that just fine. In regards to flushing the block, I caught the new antifreeze I just recently added, in a container and it looked very clean. So it just went straight back in after I was done installing the sensor. The radiator will most likely need to be replaced in a few years, so I will flush everything really well at that time.
