Thanks for noticing the IH
It’s 966 hydro
It was purchased with a Ranch my Grandpa bought in 1976,if I remember correctly the tractor is a1971.
I have many memories of riding on this tractor with Grandpa beginning when I was 5 years old.
It was the general work horse on two different ranch’s and has done everything imaginable.
A few years back it got kicked out of the barn to make room for other stuff, at that time it was moved to my Dads and parked under a tree with a tarp over it.
The starter was bad and it needed other things fixed.
When I purchased my place I needed a tractor, my Dad said I could use it if I would park it under cover.
So two summers ago I pulled the starter and had it rebuilt, bought new batteries. changed the engine oil and air filters.
This picture is the Day I got it done to bring to my place.

Dad helped me polish it and painted the wheels.
I’ve replaced a lot of hyd hose and had both main lift cyl resealed.
This year I put a new seat cushions on it.

I also have been trying to work on ole yellar, and had a list of parts I needed.
So I decided to stop by the local Willys salvage yard and do some shopping.
Hmmm let’s see I need one of those and I’ve always wanted some ubolt skid plates.

I found almost everything on my list!!
So I loaded it in the 3B and headed back to the shop.

I just love it when the Willys parts delivery guy shows up Clap

Okay fine the truth is, Maybe Mark was right... hoarder!! I was shopping out of my own Willys used parts department!Big smile
And then I remembered I wanted a set of 2.5” rear lift springs, back to the junkyard!

Yep there’s a set.
All those years of buying stuff off c-list and swap meets is paying offBig smile

I wanted to at least try for a better ride.
And after some research I found several members run rear springs on the front of there flatfenders.
Ole yellar has rancho 2.5” lift springs all the way around, it’s perfect for this swap because the front spring hanger brackets are major bubba and needed redone.
And as luck would have it I had a set of rancho 2.5”rear springs in inventory.

The rear springs are 5” longer then the front.

I took this set of rear rancho 2.5” apart and removed one of 5 springs to hopefully help soften the ride.

Oh on a side note... what do you think of my harbor freight bumper jack and jackstand!
I had a super duper coupon Wink

EmbarrassedShockedWinkLOL
Just checking to see if your paying attention!!
Now where was I..... oh ya.
With the longer spring in the stock rear spring mount it moved the axle 2.5” forward.

On this jeep that’s okay because the stupidity large winch makes the bumper 4” further out than stock anyway.
By putting another rear spring mount directly behind the stock one it would only put the axle 1/2” forward from stock, which I will keep in mind for other Jeeps.
Next I will fire up the torch and remove the front shackle mounts.

One of the things I like about Chug is the CJ5 chassis with its longer springs

The rock boys want the tires a bit in front of the bumper or frame rails so the tire bites rock before the bumper does. You will need new extended drive shafts now. Won't be long a SM 420 tranny and low 18 gear set. Then lockers. Then extra skid plates, 6 point roll bar, on and on. LOL> Oilly

One thing I was happy about on this jeep is it already had 11” brake all the way around Clap
I don’t think it’s had any miles on it since the swap, wheel cylinders all looked new...... problem is I think it has sat along time as a project, one of the wheel cylinders started leaking Ouch
And when I took it apart it was full of gunk!

I thought about honing them and installing new cups as they weren’t pitted..... but then I decided just to install all new.
And of course the rubber brake hoses needed replaced. I also noticed one of the steel lines had been brazed!! (I’ve found its a good idea to inspect the front steel brake line under the battery box, leaky battery’s can weaken the line where the acid drips on it)
Another line had bad rust pitts.
On top of that the master cylinder leaks!
Sooooo as with most projects where does it end!!
I definitely think the brakes are the most important, so new brake parts.
This is the brake/clutch combo master cylinder.

I posted in the mod forum and members helped me identify this as a 60s Chevy pickup master. Thanks guys Clap
Do you ever have that moment when you think, this thing is a piece of JUNK!!  LOL
I also found it has one D-25 hub and one D-27.
The wheel bearings don’t feel that good, and one of the locking hubs is broken!
I also ordered new trans/t-case mounts.

Hey Rick
Stupid wind blowing here for days now!!
 ( windy Sage Jeep Farm)LOL
Luckily my shop is very wind tight, I had it spray foam insulated and that is the best thing I could have done!  Money well spent, there’s a local guy that is very reasonable.

I had Desert Dog parked in the hayshed but the snow was going sideways.

Should have left it outside and the wind would have kept the snow cleaned out!!!Ouch
A Flatfender adventure is planned for the end of March...so plan on being there to pull me from the big drifts!
My goal is to have ole yellar ready for drift busting.

I made a stupid mistake today...that luckily didn’t cost me anything.
With 20 years experience driving on slick roads, I guess today was a reminder to pay attention.
We have a ruff some what steep gravel lane leading up to our driveway and I always go slow with my job trailer to keep from banging and bouncing around my tools.
Today I returned from a job, stopped and got the mail at the beginning of the lane.
When stopped at the mail box I also locked in the hubs on my pickup. I started slowly up the lane.. I didn’t even make it 1/4 way up the steep part before I spun out in 4wd!!
As soon as I put my foot on the brake I started sliding backwards...which let to some tense moments!Shocked
I remember my Dad teaching me, a rolling tire will always hold better than a sliding tire!
The hard part is your instinct is to keeping pushing the brake because you know that’s how to stop.
It’s really hard to make yourself let off the brake when your sliding backwards...Dead
My knowledge and experience kicked in, I threw it in reverse and let off the brakes!!
And then tried to keep my trailer straight in the mirror on the way back down!
With my knowledge and experience I knew better than to start up the hill with no momentum, but I was over confident.... (the snow isn’t deep) (this isn’t a big deal)..but it was a big deal, because the sun had caused the top of the hard packed snow to melt slightly and become incredibly slick.
Sometimes a good tune up is in order to remind us to pay attention!
