I have always liked the look of Highlanders.  Tough winters do not faze them.  Have fun with them.

A few weeks ago I found a broken u-bolt on desert Dog..
Actually it was two pieces of all-thread bubba had welded together to make a u-bolt!!!
I didn’t have time to fix it right away, so I told my wife not to make any 3rd gear trips to the mail box with it.
We limped it around for a week on the farm before I fixed it.

I got my bucket of u-bolts out and dug through them.

A new one would have just looked wrong! So I selected this nice used one.
 Ready for work!

I actually think that Bubba was a genius. He kept so many if our rigs on the job with minimal access to spare parts and no interwebs machine. Nice work Bubba, keeping the ole Desert Dog doing its job with what you had kicking around in the shed.
Ben did the same thing with his bucket of u bolts only his spares  inventory is much larger than Bubba’s was back in the day.
I love Desert Dog!

I don’t think bubba ever drove it after doing that repair.
I noticed it when I first started putting desert Dog together and thought....that looks sketchy! but it’s holding and there’s a lot of stuff that needs fixed Sleepy
So it held for four years!
And I don’t know if you noticed but I’m not exactly easy on the old dog!!
It probably would have lasted longer just going to the ice cream shop and car shows......but jerking shrubs out with a chain and other heavy labor took there toll on bubba’s repair!!

Flatfender Saturday!!!!Clap
This Saturday I started on the OLE YELLAR project Clap
First step, move it from the hay shed to the open bay of my shop.
It fired up just before the battery went dead!
So that was a winBig smile

First step was to get rid of the hood.... the cowl induction/box welded to the hood would work good if you wanted to stack three air cleaners on the carb!Confused
I want to be able to fold the windshield down as well.

I went picking in my jeep parts inventory and (picked) this hood.

Some one reattached the hood hinge at one time and welded it on backwards and lower which sits the hood up and back, this worked in my favor so the rib in the middle of the hood clears the air cleaner!
Another Win!!

This stupid seat a has got to go!
I opened the secondary’s on the old Qjet on my way to the shop and broke the back rest!!........Wink just kidding!
Had to see if ya was payin attention!

Anybody know what the pedals came out of?

I adjusted the linkage..... we’ll see if it helped or not.

The obnoxiously large hole in the dash actually turned out very handy when I needed to add a little bracket to support the already installed hanging pedal mount.

Aww Schucks creepers and gravel floors don’t work LOL
Back to the proven big piece of cardboard.

The real clutch master LOL

Next I started to prep for paint..... this consisted of scotch padding some of the dirt and bird crap off.

Now for my favorite part... application of the paint!
Now this is a long process that can take up to 15-20 minutes!
The trick is to try and blend the new paint with the remainder of cool old patina paint.

Bam paint job almost done.

I couldn’t paint the hood I like the stripes to much.
