A few of us headed up to Ouray for some flat fender fun.
Here’s a video of Jpet and myself on the Poughkeepsie Gulch Trail.

Awesome scenery, even with the rain.  Thanks for sharing! I’m not afraid of heights, but that shelf road had me nervous just watching!

Thanks for sharing. I haven't been down Engineer's Pass Road since 1976! We were in a CJ5 we had rented in Ouray at the time. Is that upside-down Model T still at the bottom of that gorge?

Home safely. Gr8 trip. Here are some hi lights:

First day, we did the Black Bear / Imogene loop. My bro-in-law Terry drove with us in his 4Runner.

smfulle coming down the rocks that precede the “Steps”:

That’s all the pictures I have from the day because I dropped my phone into Ingram Falls ... so, it looks like it’s up to Stan and Wade to post pictures of the “Steps” and Imogene Pass.

Wednesday, we ran an incredibly fun loop:
Corkscrew to Gladstone, to Silverton for lunch, then, from Silverton to Anamas Forks, up to Engineer Pass summit, down Mineral Creek to Poughkeepsie Gulch, up to the “Wall” and back, to Engineer Pass back to Ouray. Every afternoon this week it rained anywhere from mild to heavy but I did not think it took away from the experience.

I put my phone in a bag of rice over night and it started working again for a half day and then the screen went out. Here is what I got till that point:

Corkscrew:

Lunch in Silverton:

... after this my phone started malfunctioning again so these pictures are courtesy of Rachel:

Engineer Summit:

The rain was heavy but I didn’t mind.

After reaching the summit, we went back down and took Mineral Creek trail to the Poughkeepsie Gulch trail head. Here is sonoblast and jpet attacking the “Wall”:

This version of the Alpine Loop was a blast and took us from 8 am to 6:30 pm to complete.

Thursday, the flattys did not do any wheeling. We went to Montrose with the intent of doing “Calamity” but by the time the shop finished fixing my phone, it just didn’t work out but we did jump in with nivrat and his Cherokee to at least look the area over so we will be ready to try them another day. Yesterday was probably my favorite day as far as the trails go. That morning we headed to Marble, CO to do the Crystal Mill, Schofield Pass, Lead King Basin Loop:

... we ran the loop as follows : Marble > Crystal > Devils Punch Bowl > Schofield Pass. After reaching the water crossing at the top of Schofield, we turned around and ran Schofield down to the Lead King Basin loop and ran that back to Marble. The loop took us 5 hours.

Crystal Mill:

if some of you don’t know, this is the most photographed location in Colorado

Devil’s Punch Bowl:

Lunch:

... up the pass:

The store caretaker at Crystal told us Schofield was impassable because a boulder was blocking the trail... we assumed she was taking about this one but it was not a problem to get past:

... back down Schofield:

Wade and Rachel spot a dead moose:

Up Lead King Basin:

Interestingly enough, this Black Bear walked across the road right in front of Wade and Rachel:

Before we finished, it started raining pretty good but it did not take away from the adventure.

Highly recommended trail system. When I get a chance, I’ll prepare some video. Thx 4 reading.

  “Crystal Mill:

if some of you don’t know, this is the most photographed location in Colorado”

And it is not, was not, a mill at all. It was the power house for a hydro-electric generating plant that powered a mill that was to the right of it and is now completely gone. There was a dam to the left of it that impounded the water to generate electricity. The town of Crystal was further to the left, on the other side of the pond. I have a picture that shows remains of the mill, the dam still intact, and buildings of Crystal.
Just some fun trivia. BW
It is NOT a Jeep Willys! It is a Willys jeep.

Happy Trails! Good-bye, Good Luck, and May the Good Lord Take a Likin' to You!

What a great trip, and what crazy memories.  Thanks for sharing this with us.  It doesn't sound like the rain dampened your spirits at all.

Very scenic shots, glad they could fix your phone, that can be a bummer.

(Uh, those seats in Wade's jeep.....they have a familiar quality to them.) Wink
