i have been searching for footman loops and footman loop information. this is what i have found, but others here probably have more informative info. i included relevant links i found below. this info is open for improvement. please understand, this is representational of what i have found to this point and opinion only. as some say around here, your milage may vary.

it appears that one of the best sources for footman loops is here and these appear to be paintable:
https://walcks4wd.com/-footman-loop-stamped-paintable-_p_63.html

Mark W (see below) suggests: McMaster-Carr has a wide selection also.

low cost, plated ones are here and in stores (note, they call them strap loops, not footman loops):
Tractor Supply National Hardware Strap Loop (for 1 inch strap) $1.49
https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/product/national-hardware-2055bc-1-in-strap-loop-nickel?cm_vc=-10005

the black ones below are junk. as others state regularly on this site OMIX-ADA is very low quality. then the question gets asked, "why do you think they are junk". well, see picks below. comparison is black OMIX (Rugged Ridge, Kentrol, Alloy Brand) thinner gauge material next to the low cost National Hardware ones sold at hardware stores and Tractor Supply which appear of acceptable quality. quality is subjective, so you decide. but realistically, from a cost standpoint i would go with Walcks as 1st choice, National Hardware if one wanted an economy approach. the OMIX versions should not be purchased due to the low quality and HIGHER price! you do not always get what you pay for.

OMIX 11227.01 Stainless Steel Short Footman Loop in Black for 55-86 Jeep CJ Series

Rugged Ridge Footman Loop Kit in Stainless

Kentrol SKU: 50423, SKU: 30423

Alloy brand

useful tech info:

the footman loops were Americar black

the hardware attaching them were zinc plated

holes should be 2 1/8 (2.125) inch, center to center

designed to fit 1 inch wide strap

If you heat up the ones from tsc the zinc plating will come off and you can paint them.

That works well but be sure not to breath the burning fumes. They are very toxic.

to many jeeps, parts, and accessories to list here, but apparently enough to keep me in trouble with my wife.

In the sheet metal shop that I worked in part time after my retirement we used either copper sulfate in a solution or vinegar to haze the surface of galvanized metal so that it would take paint. The copper sulfate solution actually plates out a thin layer of copper on the metal and the copper will take paint well. Copper sulfate is toxic to don't leave it around kids, pets or where it could contaminate food or potable water. Vinegar doesn't do as well as the copper sulfate solution.
