I just found out about this message board.  I guess I've been out of touch.

Anyway, here are some photos of my updated version of the Bantam "covered wagon" canvas.  I wanted the look/feel of the original but at the time I was restoring my trailer (admittedly a "resto-mod") I couldn't find anyone who could/would steam bend oak for original style bows.  Also, I wanted something that would fit tightly enough to not puddle in the rain, handle freeway speeds without flapping, and seal tightly enough to keep out trail dust.  I also needed a framework with open sides so that I could access gear.  My top was made by the original owner of Can-Back shortly before he sold the company to the new owners (who relocated the company from Azusa Ca to AZ).  I'm told that Can-Back's top for a Tacoma shortbed will fit a Bantam with minor modifications.  Mine was custom fitted to my trailer.

I went with a non standard top on mine.
The local boat cover place made mine, Len and Tony's.  It is the same material as the boat covers and comes in a number of colors.
You may have seen the pics under SN 2524 on the Bantam T3-C site.

I figured I'd have to make one myself since I don't plan on using the sideboards, just the bows, so it would be a "non standard" cover. The plan is to make a prototype out of some other material, then either make it out of canvas, or, send the pattern to New Life and have them make it if I can't get my machine to sew canvas (or I'm too intimidated to tryLOL) Plans are kind of fluid right now with me, I'm trying to get the trailer painted and assembled so I can move it, the 2A, and all the other junk in the back into storage so I can get started on the new shop this summer. I think that's going to occupy the majority of the good weather this year. (but I'll have a warm place to work on things next winter.Big smile).
Edit: Just had a thought, do you get charged VAT if someone sends you a "gift"? PM me with the answer.

Gale,

Thank you for your thoughts about the canvas. I think New Life make it, after several email requests during the last 8 months without any reply, I called them some weeks ago and the guy told me they charge  $450.00 (if I heard right, quite expensive compared to their CJ2A top) for the chuck wagon top. With freight to Sweden 3,5% tax for car parts and 25% Swedish VAT on the total, it would be quite expensiveCry.
Maybe I will try to talk Jpet in to this when he is ready with the CJ2A topBig smile
Then he must have lot of spare timeLOL.

Roger,
I seem to recall that one of the top makers had a listing for that cover, if I can find it again, I'll let you know.

Dave and Gale,

Thank you for your kind comments.

Dave,

The new coupler and the taillight panel is only there to get it registrated for road use.
As soon this is done, I will put the original Fulton coupler and the Arrow taillight back on.

Roger - wow - looks good.
I wonder how good your canvas cover will stay on going down the road?
What did you end up doing for a coupler?  It looks new.

Next is the Chuck Wagon Canvas top.
Anyone with an original, who could provide some measurements and closeup pictures?

That's a good price, steam bending is very difficult to get right. I did some about 15 years ago (then swore I would never do it againLOL) Finally threw the steam box out 5 years ago. That's why I reverted to lamination.

Randy,

I prepaid the bows three months ago, but if I remember right the set incl. hardware was around $250.00-270.00. Contact Norm direct to get the correct price, he is a very nice guy.
