I wish it wasn't so dang cold and rainy that day.  A drive on a day like yesterday would have been nice.  I haven't hardly touched mine lately - and that is odd for me, usually I drive it almost every day.

Just been too damn busy to do ANYTHING with jeeps Unhappy

Just an update. After posting the first get together on other boards I've received emails from guys wanting to be included on the MFFC list to be notified of future gatherings.

Right now we stand at a whopping 15 members. Big smile

Yeah, you can forget any parking close to the depot that weekend before the Railroad Days festival. That grass area you mentioned is city property, and would probably get a ticket. Ill check with a local cop I know. Any other weekends parking at the depot wouldnt be a problem with trailers. Wendys is still the best bet. There is also a area behind Wendys that people could park trailers. Local semi drivers use it also.

For those not familiar with the Durand area, its a VERY safe place with VERY little crime. A typical small town. So people shouldnt worry about leaving their tow vehicles while we take a ride/etc.
We should forget the downtown parking idea alltogether. Its just too close like you said with the logistics set-up with the festival the following weekend.

If need be we can park vehicles at my place if we get in a pinch. I have a circle drive, so shouldnt be a problem getting in and out. Not worried about the grass.

Ahh, then maybe we should go with Al's idea and meet at Wendy's. In the past I've seen semi's park over night on the dead end road right behind Wendy's, so guys that trailer could park their???

I am not sure where you are talking about.  There is a parking lot across the tracks, by the clock tower, but there definitely is not room for trailer parking there.  There is a vacant grassy lot near it (just east of it), but that is not an official park to my knowledge.

In the image below, green is the parking by the clock tower, pinkish is parking for the dance studio I believe, and red is the vacant lot where a bunch of RR days activities are set up.

Chances are we may not be able to park there depending on when the carnival starts rolling in, usually they arrive the weekend before and start setting up Monday - Thursday.  May 9th is the weekend before RR days.

If it is trailer parking someone needs, I may be able to arrange parking either at my house in Owosso, or at my parents house about 4 miles north of Durand.  There are also a couple vacant areas you could get away with it for a day (there is an old empty gym behind Subway right off the Durand exit where your vehicle wouldn't be bothered).

I just used the Durand Depot as a starting point because it was suggested in PM to me, and it was an easy address to find.  Wendy's right off the exit also would be a good spot to start, and I believe they have truck parking there as well.  They used to anyway.

Thats would be fine starting from the depot. I would still like to meet with everyone "FIRST" at WENDYS though. It would make it easier for people not familiar with the area.
And yes the sideroads at first would be better so we could stay away from the interstate ramp "idiots at the exit.

ANY OTHER TAKERS YET??? How about it guys? Lets get some responses! Dont ya wanna come out and play?
Regards.

Scott,
Wendys at the Durand exit has a private eating section for groups if thats cool with everyone. If we get some commitments, can figure ameeting time and reserve our spot there.

Ok fellas here are an idea for the very first get together.

Saturday May 9th in Durand. Durand is right on I-69 about 15 miles west of Flint and about 30 miles east of Lansing. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Durand+&state=MI

From there we’ll do a leisurely country drive to the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, (Al’s idea) about 10 miles away.

http://www.mstrp.com

Of course can’t get guys together without eating so we’ll plan a stop to eat as well.

We’ll pin down specifics once people have a chance to weigh in on the topic.

Your thoughts?

I'll throw my hat in the ring... I have actually stopped to look at Al's '49 when it was parked in his front yard lol... I used to have a picture of it.  He wasn't home the day I stopped.

1946 CJ2A Owosso, MI

I drive it everywhere, so don't be surprised if you see it an hour from Owosso.

Hi Scott,
No, the mushroom festival is no longer held.  With the lack of forest fires, the acidity went out of the soil and there went the mushrooms.
I've been here since 1947, when we bought our new CJ-2A in Harrison.  The guy had two, kept one for himself and we bought the other one, Luzon Red with creme wheels.
