I had been kicking around the idea of trying to bring Michigan guys together the just like the Colorado guys did. When Al started this thread we exchanged a few PM’s, found out we’re practically neighbors, then decided to call ourselves a club and see what happens.

So I guess you can say this is the official launch of the Michigan Flat Fender Club.

There are no dues and membership is not limited to 2A’s or even CJ’s; if it’s a jeep it’s all good. Heck you don’t even need to be a jeep owner to join… Just need to have an interest in old jeeps.

For now this thread will be our club house, so to speak. Introductions, planning get togethers, etc, will all happen here.

I’ll also try to maintain an email list. So send me a PM with your email address. That way you don’t have to monitor this thread constantly, to learn when guys are going to meet and where.

What the heck I'll join. Big smile They let me in the Colorado club for a while as my daughter lives out there. We have vacationed in Michigan a few times..Nordhouse and Sleeping Bear Dunes, Makinac Island, and up at Pictured Rocks. Found some Petosky stones. Beautiful state.

Hey Tom we'll let you know when something comes together, when the weather gets a little warmer.

My grandparents had a cabin in Harrison about 35-40 years ago. I can barely remember it as I was fairly young when they sold it. I do remember running trails near the cabin, with my dad in a Dune buggy he had.

Last time I was in Harrison was for the Mushroom Festival. Does that still go on?

Hi Scott,
No, the mushroom festival is no longer held.  With the lack of forest fires, the acidity went out of the soil and there went the mushrooms.
I've been here since 1947, when we bought our new CJ-2A in Harrison.  The guy had two, kept one for himself and we bought the other one, Luzon Red with creme wheels.

I'll throw my hat in the ring... I have actually stopped to look at Al's '49 when it was parked in his front yard lol... I used to have a picture of it.  He wasn't home the day I stopped.

1946 CJ2A Owosso, MI

I drive it everywhere, so don't be surprised if you see it an hour from Owosso.

Ok fellas here are an idea for the very first get together.

Saturday May 9th in Durand. Durand is right on I-69 about 15 miles west of Flint and about 30 miles east of Lansing. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=Durand+&state=MI

From there we’ll do a leisurely country drive to the Steam Railroading Institute in Owosso, (Al’s idea) about 10 miles away.

http://www.mstrp.com

Of course can’t get guys together without eating so we’ll plan a stop to eat as well.

We’ll pin down specifics once people have a chance to weigh in on the topic.

Your thoughts?

Scott,
Wendys at the Durand exit has a private eating section for groups if thats cool with everyone. If we get some commitments, can figure ameeting time and reserve our spot there.

Thats would be fine starting from the depot. I would still like to meet with everyone "FIRST" at WENDYS though. It would make it easier for people not familiar with the area.
And yes the sideroads at first would be better so we could stay away from the interstate ramp "idiots at the exit.

ANY OTHER TAKERS YET??? How about it guys? Lets get some responses! Dont ya wanna come out and play?
Regards.

If it is trailer parking someone needs, I may be able to arrange parking either at my house in Owosso, or at my parents house about 4 miles north of Durand.  There are also a couple vacant areas you could get away with it for a day (there is an old empty gym behind Subway right off the Durand exit where your vehicle wouldn't be bothered).

I just used the Durand Depot as a starting point because it was suggested in PM to me, and it was an easy address to find.  Wendy's right off the exit also would be a good spot to start, and I believe they have truck parking there as well.  They used to anyway.
