I took a transfer case out of a 1948 cj2a to put new seals in it and noticed that it is a little different  from my other cases.

1 It has a threased axel for the shifting levers with grease fitting

2 It has 18-15-18  W.G. div. J2A-1 CAST into it and not SPICER or DANA as my others has.

3 there is also a J232A cast in it with a W1 stamped under this casting.

4 It has the external  E BRAKE like the early military

And I was wondering if anybody out there could shed a little light on it for me.

It has the 1 1/8 counter shaft.  I thought maybe someone might have put the exterrnal brake assy on it.  There is a rebuild tag riveted on it showing it was rebuilt in 1973.

Did Warner Div. use the threaded lever axel? or could someone have used a different front section of another  case?

  Thanks!    JIM
