When I was a youngster, I remember my Dad coming home from work one eve, with one of these Foremost Products Co Trailer hitches, and 1 7/8" balls. He was proud of it, and he made a wooden trailer and used the hitch on it. It is identical to the one here pictured. It DOES use that size ball, and it does fit. Thought I'd give my two cents-worth. I grew up in MI. I am actually building a small trailer, and am going to use the hitch on it.Big smile

I know that this is an post being revived but the original request was for a smaller than a 1 7/8'  trailer hitch ball.     There is a 1 3/4' ball is available at C R Brophy machine works, inc and they are rated at 2000 lbs.

Jim is on to something. On real old trailer equipment there was a 1 3/4" ball setup. Way back when, NAPA had a listing in their catalogs for that size ball in their Balkamp line. I'm sure it has been discontinued by now, but you could check with them. If NAPA didn't list it anymore the I would give Brophy a try.
