I bought this trailer back in April of this year and was not able to do much with it until now.

My plans:
    Remove tires/ rims, fenders
    Light sandblast
Repair tailgate and front where the welds have separated from the framing
    Paint everything in POR 15
    Paint to match my 48

Here are a few pictures of the beginning of the tear down.

This is the Fulton hitch that apears to have broken off at one point and then rewelded with a peace of flat iron.  I am just going to leave this for now and put on the replacement hardware.

This is what appears to be the original lights and a reflector off the trailer.  I was planning on keeping these but I broke off a couple bolts and now I am just thinking of buying some reproductions.

Here is some of the original wiring that I pulled out.  Its pretty shot so I will just be using some replacement wiring.

Moving along, I am working on three projects at the moment, but this one is on the top of my to do list.

Last couple of days:
Got about 50% of the trailer sand blasted
Removed the old fulton hitch (seen on the ground)
Welded the tailgate back together as well as the front panel back to the angle iron

I am considering in replacing the floor.  It only has some holes in the front and still has the original drain plug but I can get the floor with shipping for around 215, still thinking about it.

Took off the original hitch in anticipation of this arriving in the mail soon.

Me too, I really like the look of the old fultons, mine needed some repair, and I wanted something that would fit the 1 7/8" ball on the jeep.

Robert,

have you already sandblasted your hubs showing the beautiful unfaded original paint?

48 -- No, I am actually painting around it on one side, it wont show once the wheel is on but I thought it was sorta cool to keep

Some more progress
Had to cut out a few inches of the front of the floor so I could save it.  Not done welding but it's getting close to putting on some POR 15, maybe tomorrow
The tailgate sheet metal was falling off and split so I had to weld that back up as well

Took a break from all the other projects with the jeep and got the trailer ready for its first coat of POR 15.  ..............Painted inside the bed as well as the tailgate and three outer sides before I had to call it a night.  It's coming along.

Good job Robert!  Is looking great already Thumbs Up  Just wondering how the new tires fit under those fenders.  Do you have extra tire sticking out of it or does it fit just right?

It sticks out some, but I loaded it down with some rail road ties with the finders and tires on and it didn't rub, so I figure I am good to go.  I plan on making it into a camping jeep (my inspiration is the jeep below) I don't think I will have more than what those RR ties weighted in it so I will be fine..... I hope :)

Major work done in the past two days.
      Painted
      Installed new hitch
      Installed new wiring and lights

The box is only sitting on the trailer just to see how it looks, will be bolted on later

The floor is still wavy and has some small holes in it but I think it will last another 60yrs with that POR 15 on it

Took it down the street for its maiden voyage, had no problems on the trip, just need to finish up the back half of the jeeps top.  Some time this week I will paint the trailer to match the jeep.

Thanks Bob

I think some early ones did, mine doesn't have one, if it isn't too hard I think I may want to put one in eventually.

VERY nice Robert!

Did you build that box for the tongue of your trailer? It sure is nicely designed and well made.

Harbor freight. It was $100 after the 20% off coupon. It fits perfect, if it was a fraction bigger it wouldn't fit flat. Good quality. String hinges, locking clasp, and lid shock.
