I found a modern formula for Luzon Red Paint that I believe is a dead on match for the original.  I used the inside of the tool box lid as the sample.  I used Sikkens Auto Paint.  I will edit this post with the mix formula after my next visit to the paint shop.

Very interested!!  do you happen to have a formula for the Wheels as well?   Universal tan or something?  I'd like to blast and paint my wheels soon so I can put my new tires on!  I'll be going with the Original Luzon red as well for my late '48

I have never been able to find any good info on universal beige wheels.  I used Cummins tan engine paint but I don't think it is even close.

Here is the only paint chip I have seen:http://www.cj3a.info/cj3a/farmjeep/beige.jpg

I'm researching this paint scheme as well ...I talked to beachwood, they have the luzon red and rather than  universal beige, they use 'wake ivory' on the wheels/ trim. here is there link https://www.beachwoodcanvas.com/order/productlist.cfm
also called local sherwin williams auto paint dealer , gave the 'universal beige' ditzler number DQE-80364 and it x-refs to 'light tan'; and they can mix it.

When I purchased my jeep in the mid 80's, the service manual that came with it had notes written on the back page.
The p.o. was attempting to paint it Luzon red, and here is what his notes stated.

"Body - Ditzler (special mix- mistake)
should have been - DAR 71965 (h) - Luzon Red
(fleet color)"

From what I can gather, The incorrect mix was used to paint the jeep, and he located the correct number (maybe) for Luzon that is listed above. Keep in mind these notes were from 1982, so I doubt that this number is still valid.
I posted pics today of my jeep (on the members jeep photo thread, bottom of page 6)that is still wearing the "incorrect" mix color of Luzon red. The color is actually showing a little brighter in the photos. It's really more of a marroonish color.

I never got a paint sample from them. I'm still figuring out what I'm going to do about the paint.

i've seen alot of nice luzon colors with a variation of red tint in them, but no-one seems to be able to find any of the paint information.  If we could get someone to post their paint information with their colors this mad chase would be over and we could settle the Luzon mystery for good.  Come on help the jeep Brotherhood and may Luzon Red live forever in the cj2a page archives....... Let it be you that puts your name on that information....
