Mike the texture on your seat cover is quite different then that on mine.
Also you must have been posting at the same time I was.
Sam missed my post by a minute or so I think. I put color samples in my picture for reference.
I agree with Sam that the seat cover you posted looks Grey. I can see hints of OD in the in some of the creases though. Edited by Night0wl - 04 Dec. 2010 at 5:57pm |

let me revist my photo albums, the 3 pics i just posted are of seat covers that belong to a G member, and they might be gray......
he sent me several photos of various NOS seat coverings he has....i might have my pics mixed up.....
let me look.....
EDIT..... yes, sorry for the confusion all, the email that those photos were embedded into list them as 48/49 vintage, so i concur, they are gray....

I don't think that all original seat covers were made from the same fabric. It seems like there are slightly different grain patterns out there. I think there were probably different suppliers for the seat fabric.
For those people shopping for seat covers here are some photos of the original seats from CJ-2A 61848 along side Beachwood Canvas gray reproduction seat covers and Weebee Webbing reproduction Olive seat covers. Edited by Bob W - 04 Dec. 2010 at 6:03pm |

Close up of my seat fabric:
This is what I used for the color swatches.
It only has 314 colors.
My wife who is an Interior Design Architect suggest we use the one in the link below instead.
It is the industry standard for fabrics and color.
Pantone
This is a sample of the fabric swatches. 1,925 colors in all.
Bob, of your three that you have in the first picture. The one of the far right matches my texture I believe but I can't tell for sure. Edited by Night0wl - 04 Dec. 2010 at 6:16pm |

Guess I should have gone and checked how much the 1,925 color swatch set cost first before I suggested it!
Just a mere $3,400.00
Whoops my bad
I'm sure there are other options out there.

To reinforce what Bob has said, in the thread at the link that Sean posted earlier, it was stated multiple fabric patterns of original type seat fabric have been found. I think that there are enough photos, even in this thread, to support that conclusion. Also, a chuckle is that, the former Mr. Early Gray (me), went out to my rather cluttered garage a few minutes ago looking for a piece of original fabric that I picked up along the way. The pieces I was looking for were gray. I did not find them before I stumbled onto a seat back cover that I forgot that I had which was dirty looking. it is cleaning up to be distinctly olive. Since I don't know the origin of the cover, it proves nothing, but it does give something to compare color to. I'll post a photo of it in a bit. |

I'm thinking about posting my opinion... but before I do, I have a couple questions: 1. What are we trying to determine here? (a) What color the original seat fabric was? (b) What color is gray? (c) What color is olive drab? (d) What type of fabric was used? (e) Other? (f) All of the above? (Note: if "a" is correct, are there only 2 choices OD or gray?) 2. For what purpose ? (a) To find a match for reproduction? (b) Because we just want to know? (c) Other (d) All of the above. 3. What color is the fabric in the pictures that I just posted? (a) Olive? (b) Olive drab? (c) Gray? (d) Other? (f) All of the above? thanks. Edited by jpet - 04 Dec. 2010 at 7:55pm |

The questions are legit. I have some opinions but they are lengthy and I don't want to ramble off topic so I'm just making sure that I know what the topic is. |

I suspect there may be multiple agendas. While I'm interested in learning all I can about the original seat coverings for the full range of 2As, I'm most immediately interested in learning what fabric(s) could have been on my 15292. That includes the type of material, the color and the texture or grain. I'm also interested in learning what if any changes in fabrics occurred from from first production forward in time.
So, I think there is a variety of information that we can develop without being off topic. |

Looks gray to me. What does it look like in the flesh and where did it originate?
