Just wondering what if anything I should do. I just greased the hubs bought new wheels and tires and towed it over 1000 miles from Washington to Colorado. I was planning on making this trailer my camping rig. My plan was to media blast it and have my buddy rhino line the whole thing. Might be sacrilege. This was my grandfathers who passed. I grew up using it with my father who grew up using it with his dad. I was lucky enough to have it gifted to me by my grandmother.
feeling puzzled, looking for some direction. Bob J. |

Congrats.....I'd like to see more pics before making an opinion call as to what "I" would do, or give advice on a direction to take on your gift! It appears to be an extraordinarily nice original survivor. They're only original once. Don't rush to tear down, restore, repaint just yet. ......my .02 cents

I appear to have found another Gambles Bantam T3-C. The number plate is a trimmed, reversed Bantam plate with 29936-G on it. The rest of the trailer is a very stock-appearing later T3C. I cannot find 'Hiawatha' on the tailgate, but will try. This trailer may have had a 2nd brush paint job in its life. Trying to upload more images, but this forum software is killing my attempts. If you ever decide to remove the dataplates I would like to get the Bantam sn's for the database.

I did remove the data plate, but it was so highly trimmed that no Bantam serial number exists, unfortunately. Can I remove the front spring and look on the hanger, or is that a different number? Thanks - Steve

That is surprising...did you at least take a picture?
Its too late into production for a gusset stamp - only the left over WWII T3's had that ACM number. |

A Feb. '47 Gambles ad showing that they sold Bantam trailers. I found this at www.newspapers.com. I posted an excerpt, then the entire ad. |

February 1947. Dont forget, the war was not yet two years past. Tires were very hard to get during and for a while after the war. Early CJ2-A’s came without a tire on the spare wheel. A trailer could use a worn, used tire. BW

I just did same googling.
$179 seems cheap but....
Adjusted for inflation, $179 in 1947 is equal to $2,321 in 2022 |
