I had to weld in some metal but I tried to save as much original metal as I could within reason.  I did not want to destroy the patina.

Can't say that these measurements are "correct", but this is what I get:

I come up with different dimensions than Jack did on his drawing:

IDK other than this is an MB.  This cross member is made out of 12 gauge.  I think a 2A might be 11 gauge.

Jeff, I think they made changes when they went to the 2A, things like extending the left side for the plate slots and making accommodations for the hitch. (BTW, what CAD program do you use?)

Yeah, I get that part.  Adding PTO hole stuff like that, but Jack's drawing shows his cross member to be 53-1/2" long where mine is 50-1/2.  Gen'l Willys has an MB frame so I don't have a 2A to compare to.

For 2D stuff (like this), I'm using AutoCAD 2012.  For 3D, I use Autodesk Inventor 2012.

I had to run out and measure mine, I get 53-3/8" I think 1/8" would be within Willys toleranceLOL (mine is original, one of the few parts that didn't get replaced). I haven't used AutoCAD for a long while, I use SolidWorks now.

I just use AutoCAD for 2D sketches and what-not.  I use Inventor for design work.  It is a lot more realistic and more intuitive than ACAD.  I've used SolidWorks.  They are similar.

That does look similar, I still learn something new every time I use it, I'm currently exploring the fluid analysis capabilities, amazing stuff.

2A bumper is assymetrical due to the plate mounting IIRC.  MB didn't need the plate mount, or they hadn't thought that far ahead yet.

Really love how you are saving the unsaveable. Good work!!

EDIT: Left side is extended so the license plate will fit, with the slots for the bolts, IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY..Wink

Thanks Justin.  I can't wait to see either.

Bam Bam's rear frame horns are very thin as well.  I'm gonna have to replace most of the metal there.

The clean process you are doing is refreshing. I'll bet you enjoyed those rivits on the old frame. Amazing how they spread out between layers of steel huh? I got to ask since FBILL is on here, What does the "F" stand for Bill? Fixer, frustrated, finder, fractured, fumbler, Ford, framer, farmer, found in ND, Frank, ----------what please?Big smile John

Oh yes!  They are a total joy to removePinch

Even more fun will be installing the new ones and trying to buck the end inside a box tubing! Ouch
