Hopefully, I will get a chance this weekend to do some painting of my own on the motor.

Great work Jeff! The rivits especially. I know you are attached to General Willys, and I suspect Bam Bam will be a close friend also. Got to thinking of loving more than one, kinda like having two wives. (NOT). The word polygamy came to mind. So, having more than one very close Jeep should be called: Jolygamy, loving two or more JeepsLOL. Hoped to meet you at the FCT in Co. , but it's the same weekend as my only very special grand daughters birthday party. Can't miss that.  Keep the pictures coming when you get back to Bam Bam! John AKA Oilleaker1 ( PS, the Black Hills are just a little north of Colorado on I 90. )

Thanks John. Believe me, GW is working on the project just as much as I am.

I have to take a break from Bam Bam for now to get GW ready for Colorado. He is due for an engine overhaul but in the mean time, the General chooses not to sit on the side lines. He will be working out the bugs in Bam Bam's engine:

For those who are uninformed, this is the "little ... cracked ... engine that could.

ANOTHER CRACKED BLOCK

The past week has been a struggle working all the bugs out. .. mainly overheating, timing issues and so forth. Finally after changing the bushing in the dizzy and changing the water pump, we have the engine running much better. We've got the temperature down to 180 with a 160 thermostat. Still a little work to do though. I have to leave town next week so I will probably fill the cooling system with vinegar as has been suggested here on the page lately in a few different threads. The good news is, in 150 miles, no coolant leaks, strong compression and good vacuum.       From here till the reunion and Colorado, the focus will be on Gen'l Willys.

Running a deliming agent in the radiator helps unless the copper/brass is basically eaten through. You'll find the hole if it has. A new core seems to be the best fix as Morgan and I both have discovered. 318.00 bucks up here. It doesn't cost anything to try though.  My MB engine which was all standard had a oil float pickup that was crushed inside it. ?????? Found a pinhole at the base of the water jacket on the distributor side. It was all the way through on both sides. The casting was very thin.  I blasted right through the block with plastic media. Anyway, ground the hole back to thicker material and held a sheetmetal "backer plate" inside the jacket against the hole inside and out.  I mig welded it about 1/4 inch at a time. Ground it all clean and JB welded smooth over the top. Never has had a leak in 8 years of running. GW as a test bed!!!, what a great helper you have !Big smile John

I know this isn't much but I did get the combat wheel I got from hugh sand blasted and painted today:

a few bolts too:

Haven't been able to do anything with Bam Bam because I have been booked with my sewing but I need to do a few things here and there just to keep the ball rolling.

I have new flaps and I have at least 5 good or "good enough" wheels. Eventually I hope to collect enough for both MBs.

Jeff,

Your work is awesome. I really admire the way you are restoring Bam-Bam.
I hope to do my own MB or M38 some day.
This thread is an inspiration!

Yes I'm still on the project.

Bows:

In doing a little experimenting. First I stuff an insert into the end of the tubing:

.... then, smash away:

Seems to match ndrtkr's original bows:

I know it's not much but believe me, I've been in multiple jeep projects this winter

Thanks for reading.
