I have a grille screen (chaff screen) without a cutout for the footman loop, other than that it looks like a normal cj2a screen. Any idea what it fits? I thought about early cj5 but it hasn't the hole to reach through for the hood latch.

Early CJ5's don't have a under the hood latch, they only have the hold downs on the outside of the hood like a 2A does.

Thanks Russ, I did some research and it’s probably an early cj5 one. I never paid any attention to the hood latches on them .
I guess I better just find somebody to trade with for the right one, they look sort of rare. Edited by 48willys - 07 Jan. 2013 at 7:36pm |

It could be for the 3b. Or maybe if your lucky you have an early one for the cj2. Need to see a photo.

In pic 2, are the clips for carring a water bag? I've got the same ones on mine. Only use I could think of.

I've always used them for handles to pull the screen in and out.

I assumed those tabs were handles also.
The CJ-3B version of the Chaff Screen is rectangular with no headlight cutouts.
I guess the acid test would be to set this up against an early CJ-5 to see what it looks like.

I'd be afraid of the possibility of lead paint being on it. |

Yea that and the galvanized coating would leave an odd after taste.
I was noticing the clips pull out some when it’s snapped on the cj2a grille. Are the cj5 slats closer together? I might just have to find someone with a early cj5 that will let me try it on. |

Update, stopped to the neighbors last night and tried it on a 76 cj5 grille (supposed to be same outside dimensions as early cj5s). It fits perfect, apparently the slats of the cj5 are closer together, the clips center over the slats much better than the cj2a.
