Well, I was able to locate a decent used original tub pretty close to the house. It will need some work, but appears to be manageable. I also bought two more CJ2As from the guy that are complete but projects at this point...

Current Juan tubs last 6 years or so are made from
Galvanize steel rust issues are at a end. Drink
A glass of milk before welding on it and it is all good

Takes some work and can make period correct.
Have your old cowl welded on some vendors do that.

Long store short a jeep after 46 and on will never be
Worth what a good restores MB is.

I am almost certain to say that Brian Haner (metalshaper) would be more than happy to assemble a tub for anyone, and it would be just as correct as any tub that left ACM in the 40's.....

if you are drop msrp on a crappy tub made of sh*t metal that doesnt fit, maybe look into jewels SS stuff. at least it wont rust out as fast. once again, personally i would hunt all CONUS for a builder and get it shipped. only a rust belter would consider juan a option. i always get mistaken that i have found the holy grail just to find out it is only a 10 year old rusted out juan.

Happy you got it corrected but I was not looking at your tub but my order experience. Once again how original is original? Did you look at who produced the welding rod? Same with the spot welder? Wonder if the sheet metal was produced in the states?
Enjoy your Jeep and drive it.

What makes you think that Low didn't use the tools from the Willys Factory to re-build his tub?? He's just being modest.  He studied all the tooling sheets.

That's why some of us can tell a 'real' 45 tub even from a crappy photo. Wink

I doubt Stephen Greene has any dies....I beleive his work was done with hand tools, brakes, shears, and a bead roller.

Brian Metalshaper was selling out at one point, but wasn't selling his jeep patterns, hammerforms, or other tooling for the MB/2A stuff, and now is considering opening a museum, so he might still be producing some stuff. Other than that and some european small shops, Classic is it. Or....the mysterious 2A page reverse engineering experts might have a whack at it eventually too. Wink

I am curious... What would people think a fair price for a rebuilt tub like Low's would be, prepaint? Just how much would you spend to not deal with MD Juan and have mostly original repaired tubs? That has always been the limiting factor to a US manufacture of a jeep tub. I would imagine unless Mike and Jerry wanted to work for pennies, nobody could afford to purchase a tub like that. WIth complete, restored jeeps going for under $10,000.....you just can't justify an expensive but correct tub for most jeeps out there.

I am making mine "period correct".............. I do not believe i have ever stated i was restoring mine to original condition....

if i wanted "original", i would not have sold #10910...........tranny and paint were the only 2 things ever changed on it..... thus making it "not original", but as close as i have ever owned...

this very topic of "original" has been hashed here for many years...... "search function" will provide those dialogues......
