Okay, so I got my rebuilt starter back. When it left it had a bad 10 tooth starter drive. It now has a 9 tooth starter drive. When I asked the rebuilder, I was told that he had checked with several sources and this was the correct drive.
I thought I had seen a post on starter drives, but I can not find it... Will the 9 tooth work? At least until I can afford the expense? The rebuild cost $180 so I am tapped out for a bit... |

Eric -- If you had a 10 tooth drive before, and it engaged and worked properly, then that's what should be on your starter. It's totally dependent on the number of teeth you have on the flywheel (i.e., distance between teeth). ...R

You still need to look at your flywheel but a 10 tooth starter and 97 tooth flywheel is correct for a 2A. I don't know where this builder got his sources but he should of at the least contacted you before just sending back what he thought you needed.

I had the same problem, ordered the original amount of teeth for the starter and got something else. Will not work, well it cranks but the sound is like a stone crunch model big!

Spoke with my rebuilder again and got things ironed out. The correction will be made at his expense.
All is right with the World..... |
